Breast Cancer diagnosis without biopsy results

Where do I start.. I was recalled today for a 2nd mammogram following a routine one a few weeks ago. At 53 I accepted the " its probably just menopause changes and not to worry" call when asked to come back. So i went today and had an ultrasound scan, a further mammogram  before and after they did the biopsy, placing a clip inside my breast, to be taken in a room and told that with "their" scoring I was a 5 and they are pretty certain its breast cancer. How can they be so certain without the biopsy results? Has anyone else faced the same? Im a single lady with amazing friends and family but its Xmas Eve tomorrow and im adamant to stay my happy upbeat self but I dont know how to tell them. Im supposed to be having a hip replacement on the 6th Jan and ive been told to postpone it.. my mum and dad are all set to move in to help whilst recovering.. so there is no hiding this from them.. I just dont know what to think.. your advice / comments would be sincerely appreciated and good luck to all of you fighters on here

  • Thank you Debbie, much love and good vibes to you. Keep in touch xx

    Hi Lula,

You're so right. It's a case of putting on a face to the outside world, no matter how bad you feel inside. You'll be amazed to find how many people have cancer and most are very supportive, as are the people on this site, most of whom have had first-hand experience of it. You will find that it is sometimes easier to talk to strangers, who know what you are going through, than to burden loved ones, who don't fully appreciate what is going on and how you really feel about it all.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Morning lovely

Everyone I have spoke to or messaged here are so so supportive and kind. It certainly makes me feel less alone in this.

Have a lovely day, im babysitting my grandchildren and their new puppy later.. they always put a smile on my face.

    Stay strong lovely xx

  • Wow, midgemo, back to spin!  How long post surgery are you?  I am awaiting my surgery (round block mamoplasty) and have been told I am off my bike for 6 weeks. I do use a trainer on Zwift and am hoping I can get beck on that sooner?

  • Hi Lulu,  I just want to send you best wishes.  I had my diagnosis on 6th December.  It was confirmed by biopsy ...but on,y after 2 other biopsies were clear ... has been going on since September which has been stressful but did allow me to get my head around things.  It must have been such a shock for you to be given the news.

I had kept it quiet until I had a diagnosis and then I told people ...had a week of reassuring everyone else which was exhausting!  I can understand your worry telling your mum ... I felt the same ...but after her initial upset she has been a rock.  I hope your mum will be too.

I did tell a couple of people during my 3 months of uncertainty.  It is real and scary experience you are going through and it is okay to ask for support even though there is still a chance of a false alarm. Just find people who don't say "don't worry!I am sure you'll be fine"!

I hope you are doing okay whilst you are waiting.  You can go to some dark places, especially in the wee hours.  Try not to Google or listen to others stories ...we are all different.

    thinking of you

    HI Lula,

I just want to reassure you that the insertion of the clips is routine. This pinpoints where the tumour is and is helpful during the operation. If no cancer is found, it can stay in place without causing any ill effects.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • This is happening to me too - I had the mamogram, ultrasound & biopsy, they then marked it & have told me they're certain it's cancer with a score of 4 or 5

got to go back 3rd Jan for results & treatment plan

    I'm so worried

  • Hello lovely

It has been a tough ride for us, and many others here, both but everyone on this group is so encouraging and inspiring. I have spoke to a few people, like my Avon lady, who has been through the same and is still going strong.

Ive come to terms with it, whilst still staying hopeful for a better prognosis than my thoughts.

At the end of the day there is nothing I can do to change the outcome so there is no point worrying about it. I will just do what is necessary to treat it. I see it as an infection that needs treatment.

The hardest part is telling loved ones as you want to protect them and stop them from worrying. Im not looking forward to that part. Yet I know they will be possitive and encouraging. Stay strong.. we are all here to support each other and give encouragement through our journeys.

Good luck to us both for Tuesday and anyone else awaiting results.. let me know how you get on.. check your message inbox on here and i will add as a friend if you want to accept of you want to chat anytime Xx

  • Hi lovely

Thank you for your reply and re assurance. Since having this and the biopsy i can feel the lump. Its tender to touch and rock hard. Its been a week since it was done, is this normal? Can you recall?

    Xx

    Hi Lula,

The breast is usually tender for a while after you have had a biopsy. The area will be tender to touch too and you will only make it worse by continually feeling it - which we all do!

    Regards,

    Jolamine xx
