IDC Grade 1

Hello.  I was wondering if anyone had been diagnosed with IDC grade 1?  I had calcifications found on a mammogram for a cyst that was a cluster of 17mm. Had my results today and Obvs I was hoping it was benign or just DCIS, but they've gone straight in with IDC grade 1.  It's tiny apparently only 1mm.  Told me nothing else was seen in the other calcifications.  I was really shocked and questioned this.

I'm having a lumpectomy in 2 weeks to remove all the calcifications and take out some nodes.  I'm told they are not expecting to see any spread and my nodes looked ok on ultrasound but there were no guarantees until the biopsies are done again.  Reassuringly they said the IDC was so tiny they almost felt they were "over treating" this and were amazed it had been found so small.
Then because it's IDC I have to have 5 days of radiotherapy.

Just wondered how anyone else coped in this situation, outcomes etc.

Thankyou x

  • Thanks Jolamine for taking the time to respond.  That's all helped a lot.  I'm still very up and down coming to terms with everything they've told me and I'm analysing every detail and probably over thinking.  My nurse said I've just got to trust them and I suppose she's right!  Take care xx

    Hi Mary,

Like you, I questioned the system from the start and, this did me no favours. It does really, help if you can have enough faith to trust in your care team to do their very best for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Oh ladies Im really struggling this morning.  I've just taken a call from the senior radiographer at my clinic saying they've found another area of calcifications lower down near my nipple (similar to the other one they've just done).  I was only in yesterday for my magseed and they took other images.

How can this have been missed.  I think they're worried as she's squashing me in at 8 o clock next Tuesday morning and is doing it herself.

she's told me they are being super cautious because they expected my biopsy to come back showing DCIS only.  As they found the small area of invasive she said they wanted to check these new calcs that they have also graded as indeterminate.  My surgery on 11th is cancelled until results are in and they've had another meeting.

She said I've got very dense breasts which contradicts what they told me last week when they said they were "moderately dense".  I've lost trust in my clinic, not the pathology side of things or the surgeons but the readers.

I'm thinking of asking for a second opinion of all my images.  Oh my word im in a state!  x
