    Hi Shelly,

    Welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you have had a recurrence of your breast cancer. I have also had 2 bouts of breast cancer. The first was 10 years ago and, the second was only a year later. I had taken Tamoxifen for the first year, but changed to Letrozole, which I took for 6 years. I stopped taking this inJuly 2017.

The night sweats can be a nightmare. Mine have continued despite having stopped all treatment. The normal medicine prescribed for this didn't work for me. My breast care nurse advised me to take a mild anti-depressant (Venlafaxine) to combat these. It doesn't stop them altogether, but it makes a huge difference.

Talk to your breast care nurse and see what she advises.

I sincerely hope that she can suggest something to help you out.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • I was diagnosed 10 years ago and started taking Tamoxifen in September the same year. I am wondering at what point I should stop taking them.

    Hi Noahs_nan,

    Welcome to our forum.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. I started taking Tamoxifen after my lumpectomy. However, I changed to Letroxole after my double mastectomy and took this for 6 years. When I was first diagnosed, I was advised that I would be taking Tamoxifen for 5 years. Since then the protocols seem to have changed and people are being advised to keep taking the tablets for 10 years.

My cancer was grade 1, with no lymph node involvment, so I was advised after 6 years on Letrozole that I could stop.

I suspect that there will be a number of factors which determine how long we should take this treatment for. The person who knows your medical history and diagnosis best is your consultant or your breast care nurse, so ask them this question.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
