My BCC - life after cancer

Hi I was diagnosed with a BCC about 4-5 years ago, when I can't remember exactly when, I went Dr's  and I told him there was a family history of skin cancer, it was sore because it was right on top my head, i've got quite thick hair so i found it quite hard when i was told it was cancer and I always wore a hat. My dad and both of his brothers all had the same skin cancer, when he removed it he said that he wouldn't send it to the lab as it was just a cyst but I was unsure, unfortunately it grew back I went and saw another doctor he removed it and because of family history he sent it off this i was right I knew it was cancer, it came back positive for BCC and I said I knew, I had the cancer removed and I have a large dent in my head luckily for me it didn't grow back, i'm  more aware about wearing a hat and putting loads of high factor sun scream on, this time it didn't grow back but my head is tender but at least the cancer has gone thank goodness.  I now urge men mainly to wear a hat out in the sun, some people say sure and I have had people say all well I don't care, there will care once they find a scabby small lump of their head or face or anywhere else on their body. My saying is ware a hat and sun cream protection is better then cure. I'm now cancer free .( It's better to be safe than sorry.)

Kind regards,

Julie T

  • Sound advice Julie T for anyone that may be reading your post. Hat sunscreen avoid mid day sun. UV levels will soon be increasing to 3 and above again in March. Ive got many scars on my head face  back and chest where BCC and SCC have been removed. Plus parotid gland and lymphs in neck removed. now metastatic SCC to bones and lung. Take care in the sun but especially if you have fair skin, blond or red hair or blue eyes.
