Confused

Hi, I've posted a few times and I am still really confused about what my partner and me have been told. My partners bowel cancer was staged at 3 verging on stage 4. The consultant said although no spread shows on scans it was close to being stage 4. We have just seen paperwork stating the stage of 3-4 although it also says no spread . What does that mean.  ? I feel we are going up in a rollercoaster then straight down again.

the cancer was staged at 2. What does that mean? I can only find the description of what that is rather than explanation.

we are both so confused . The consultant said he was having adjuvant chemo and then said that it may not be that as he may and probably will need a further op to remove strands?
his locum consultant said he may not need an op.

we have no idea if we are coming or going

he also suffered an extravasion on the last round which had meant antibiotics , countless trips to the clinic and doctors and a really hard , red painful arm.
I hope someone could answer my questions

thanks

  • Forgot to say hope you've got plenty of books and they are good ones.

I need new glasses. Hard to get to see my optician. Fully booked. Maybe next month. xx

  • Hello lisa,

its down to fractions,3 and seven eigths is still 3 not 4 ,close but no biscuit.l was graded high three close to four,in between the diagnosis and surgery it had migrated into my lymph and l had subsequent spread to the liver,it sometimes comes down to fine margins and speed of spread.

Given that your husband has had surger and the tumour removed,,the surgeon could see it was close to breaking through the outer bowel wall(grade4) but had not quite done so (grade 3).

Sorry to read of the recent complicatios, just another hurdle to be cleared on the road to recovery, its never straightforward is it? but you will get there in the end,

                                                                                                                 David

  • David, thank you for your reply. I think I have got so confused about everything once again I've just panicked. The consultant said the tumour had broken through the wall but not spread to anywhere else. The scan showed strands on the resection join that will almost definitely need to be removed. It is like being on a road journey on which you hit potholes every now and again.

thank you for your kind words

    Lisa
