DCIS

I am absolutely freaking out today!

Still have to wait until 15 July for re excision and SNB.  How do you all hold it together?  To make things worse, the top of my scar became infected, the nurse at clinic on my wound check pulled out the top stitch.  It is not large, about 1cm, but ha something called Slough in it. GP put me on antibiotics, which have helped, but this white Slough still there and I think it impedes the healing process.  Going back to doc tomorrow, as I need it sorted, I can't not have the surgery on the 15th!  Freaking out big time on SNB too, as I'm scared of the results of the lymph nodes, since they found 4mm invasive cells in the DCIS.  Taking Arimidex.  Had a melt down tonight, I'm not doing very well am I?

  • Thankyou so much for replying. I’m a little younger than you so it wasn’t found on Mammogram, I had a pain which made me touch, then I found a lump. I know 2.5mm is tiny, my nurse has said I would never have felt it. It’s going from from pre-invasive to invasive, Covid hasn’t helped, I’ve literally had 5 minute conversations on the phone. I’m so glad you are on the other side, it gives me such hope that I too can get through this. Michelle

  • Hi Michelle

Sorry to see you've joined the club but the good news is they have found it really early. Invasive sounds frightning but there's nothing scary about a tumour the size of a pin head and your treatment plan won't change from DCIS.  The treatment itself is doable and one quickly recovers. The key is to focus on the outcome; it will be all over soon and you'll be able to get on with your life free from cancer x

  • Thankyou Magpiemaggie.

That’s what I’m holding on to, get the lymph node biopsy done Friday, I’m so hoping and praying there is nothing untoward. There wasn’t anything at Ultrasound, they didn’t delve at lumpectomy as they believed true DCIS. I understand the need to do it but these last 6 weeks waiting have been horrendous. Worrying and Dr Google as my consultant.

  • I don't think you need to worry, I had a 11mm invasive and my nodes were clear but I knew they were due to, like you, having had an ultrasound prior to operation. Unfortunately 3 nodes were reactive during op so had to have them removed, turned out they were clear so had them removed for nothing! so you're fortunate that they are doing a biopsy which means they won't be removed and you won't have the hassle of dealing with potential lymphedema for the rest of your life.

Try keep away from Dr Google, it knows nothing about you and only leads to anxiety.
