Oesophegal cancer

Hi folks, I have known since Nov23rd I have a tumour at the bottom of my gullet, barratts osophegus and a hiatus hernia. Think all caused by acid reflux. Anyway after a ct scan just before xmas they detected cancer in a lymph node near the top of my lung and I have been told they cannot do anything op wise to save me. I am a fit 55 yr old. Anyway main point. I started first course of chemo yesterday. An infusion EOX then 21 days of pills. Worst side effect so far is painful tingling in the ends of my fingers and one of my hands actually siezed up trying to get a glove on 10 mins ago. Can anyone tell me how long this side effect normally lasts( in days) as I cant get through by phone to my consultant.

cheers Mick

  • Hi

I would recommend contacting your cancer nurse to speed up tests and treatment. There is a lot of test wait test wsit involved and it does drive you bonkers. If you feel the wait for the next test is too long contact the cancer nurse. I successfully had appointments brought forward as a result of speaking to my husbands cancer nurse. All the best

  • MWell I’ve been on EOX chemo for over 100 days now and have one more infusion to go this Tursday followed by the 21 days of popping pills. Last couple of weeks I’ve felt really low in energy and want to sleep during the day more.My tumour is at the bottom of my gullet and they had to put mesh stent in as I couldn’t swallow food. 6 months down the line I still have no real pain just an odd bit of discomfort. Sleeping at night can be a problem as once the stent is in the contents of your stomach start to swim back up to your throat and coughing and spitting ensurs. To combat this I propped up my bed at headboard side with two bricks and try and get my pillows on a slope. Try to have last meal well before bed time. I’ve been told thry cant operate on me as they detected a spot of cancer in a lymph node at top of my lungs so its all about getting as long as I can out of this treatment. Dont hesitate to get in touch again if you want to ask about anything else. Tell your mum good luck x
