Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • How's it going? Got the dressing off?
  • Evening me dear

Nope the steri strips are well and truly stuck fast - sigh.

I’ve had 4 showers to no avail lol. There is def some sort of clear rubber type patch over the top of them (when washing I can feel it nd the shower gel isn’t breaking it down) the sticky off the soft dressing has washed away though - yeah.

hope they don’t just rip them off tomorrow - u will know if they have cos u will hear me lol.

Hows u. Hope shoppings all done etc nd you’re kicking back relaxing admiring your nails. Do you start your RT Tomorrow? U morning or afternoon?

My appointment is in the afternoon- I’ll let u know how I get on.

  • Start rads on Wednesday at 5 o'clock! Great time! Nails tomorrow morning, early, Like 8-15 early. Lunch with a friend. Been cooking over the weekend to put some meals in so if I'm a bit knackered later at least there'll be some decent food.
  • Hope the dressings coming off isn't too painful, here's a virtual hand to hold, squeeze as hard as you need to if they go for the brutal approach!!!

  • Blimey 5:00 sounds late. Could u pick morning or afternoon- was talking t someone having their RT at same hosp as me and they were asked which was their preference- they picked afternoon. If I’m asked will ask for morning cos daughter is taking me nd she might can go to work after she drops me back off Home.

There is just me at home so my plan is to do nowt. If I need owt I can’t get myself I’m ringing the daughters lol ( this is my plan daughters no nothing of it ).

    take care

  • Morning wasn't an option, was told there weren't any, certainly during the first week.  This is what I've been presented with, oh joy.

Both mine still live at home, she's on her way back from Tenerife as we speak, he's round at his mates.

She's been brilliant during the last few months, she's been to appointments with me, especially some of the contentious one's and has pitched in and argued when the medical professionals haven't played by the rules.

  • Hi ladies. You guys have got this - nails at the ready and will look fabulous! You both have stayed on my mind and am sending positivity to both of you. Let us know how you get on timorrow. Take it easy both.x
  • Daughter has suggested getting them done ombre style? All sounds a bit fashionable for me I'm afraid. Probably go for one of my usual colours.

  • Ah brill - you have raised them well. They have your back - that’s a demonstration of love right there- b proud.

Mine have always come to my appointments too but ... I’ve never taken them in the room with me - they r cryers- tell them Tesco has run out of cakes nd they would cry lol.

They r very supportive and I’ve told them everything but in the consultations I need to be focused not worried how they are taking things.

Bet u can’t wait for her t b back home from her hols. Love them t b independent but also safe Home lol x

  • I'm stalking the plane as we speak! She's been in the appointments with me as well. She's a bit emotional, like me, but she's very good at getting the point across.
