The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi all

Oh for those summer days when we could sit out in the garden. Maggie May modelled this one. Hope it makes you all smile.

Hope everyone can find a smile in their day.

  • Good morning everyone! It me!! Sorry I haven't logged in in a very lon while .  I have been feeling really down because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I haven't been able to see the specialist in a few months due to inssurance changes and once I got one approved when I call to make the appointment ( wich it takes about 3 months to get in) they tell me they don't accept my group inssurance any more , so lots of pain , no meds. As to my breast cancer , all my follow up appointments are clear and no sign of that beat. Yey!!
the bad: I still have to go to work and function "normal" when I feel like crap, my hands, feet, knees are swollen and I can barely walk. . I'm a mess. I'm 65 and no signs of being able o stop working . Warm hugs to everyone.

    Hi Beachbabe,

This is absolutely fantastic news. You must feel over the moon with relief!.

    I'm really thrilled for you.

    Hi Liliana,

I am so sorry to hear that you have feeling so down thanks to your Rheumatoid Arthritis. You must have been really disappointed to find that your group insurance no longer covered you. Have you gone back to the NHS for treatment? Sometimes they can be helpful too.

I am delighted to hear that you are cancer free now. and, hope that you don't get any sign of it again. Ask your GP for a referral to a Rheumatologist and give them a chance to sort you out.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you everyone. Yes very relieved although sad for ones who have lost their manager position or made redundant. Just need good news for mum on 9th March then it’s full steam ahead for a better year! X

  • Hi Liliana, rubbish about arthritis but fab about the no sign of cancer. Us lot continue to smash this and beach...so glad about your job. Mist be a weight off your shoulder x

Well we went for Jamie's aunties 70th bday meal yesterday. Was the most awful meal ever. The portion sizes were laughable....I could have eaten it 5 times over! Then they put on live music! My backside could have sung better than the girl. Was too loud and awful. God it was just a disaster. Then one of auntie Kathy's drunk guests who Jamie hasnt seen in a long time kept calling him a fat ***...making out it was a joke but when its said for the 10th time it's no longer a joke. Shes lucky I was driving or I'd be up on an assault charge lol.

Had my reconstruction consultation last week and they didnt know why I hadn't been tested by the brca gene before with my family history so I've got to wait to be tested for that. If it comes back positive they will take off my other boob too. They are going to take tissue from my stomach to make another boob. 6 hour operation with 4 month recovery period and in a hospital an hour away as that the only place near that does it. So will have a scar hip to hip but will just add it to the collection of my battle wounds

Also....vinnie has cut his first tooth. My little boy is growing too quick. I might push it back in lol.

Have a fab weekend all xz

    Hi Dizzle,

Your party sounds so bad that it was almost comedic.

I'm sorry to hear that more obstacles were put in front of you when you went for your reconstruction consultation last week. It's hard to believe that they never tested you for the BRCA gene when you have a family history. Have they given you any idea of how long you'll have to wait to get tested? I'm hoping and praying that it doesn't come back positive, as I'm sure that you don't want to have the other boob removed too.

Having said this, I just want to reassure you that if, the worst comes to pass, you can still cope well minus both boobies. I've managed well for nearly ten years. Admittedly, I never had any reconstruction, but I feel that I've done my level best to get rid of all my cancer. I don't need to worry about having uneven sized breasts. I manage well with various prostheses for different activities and, can increase or decrease my breast size according to how I feel.

Great to hear that Vinnie is reaching his 'first milestones' already. I bet that he looks even cuter with his first tooth on show!

    Have a great weekend.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Welcome back liliana,

sorry to hear u r unwell... we are so lucky here in the uk... if we need treatment we get it.
have you seen much of your family lately?
I hope you get sorted soon ️

  • Blinking heck sounds like meal from hell. At least the family were together... well apart from drunk guests.

everything crossed for your latest test then reconstruction here u come. Location could be better but...means to an end. X

  • Evening peeps.

bad:- I ache from head to toe. At daughters yesterday and together we did 3 coats of paint to 2 rooms( just been replastered) and I carried all the flooring to the room for son in-law and daughter to lay it. Stiff as an old board don't even cover it lol.

good:- duvet day to creak around the house till lil ones came at 5:30 ( still staying at mine while house being done).
At least got a long weekend away starting Friday to look forward to. It's a murder mystery, fair chance we won't get it right lol... at least there is a meal while it all unfolds.

hope everyone has had as good a day as they can x
