Living with Secondary Breast Cancer - Clear PET scan again!

I am Cheryl and I am 50 this year and a mother of a 9 1/2 year old daughter with a wonderful husband and family.  This is my 5th year of having secondary breast cancer on the bone, having had breast cancer some 10 years ago.  I have just had my annual PET scan and once again it shows no new spread and that the secondary breast cancer metastasis have healed.  This is again fanatastic news and makes me feel more positive about the future.  I also know that for now the drugs, Herceptin and Denosomab are working.  I feel fantastic and having news like this makes me feel like a normal person again.  I want to share my good news to others who may be in the same position to let them know that there is always hope out there and to remain as positive as you possibly can, like I do.

    Dear Cheryl, Kris and Clazza,

I am glad that you have all shared with us your good news and I sincerely hope that this continues for all of you. As someone who has had 2 bouts of primary breast cancer in the past 10 years, the possibility of developing secondary cancer is always on my mind. My mum had primary breast cancer for 12 years, before she developed secondary breast cancer in her brain, bones, liver and lungs.

That was 21 years ago and, there was nothing that they could do for her. Fortunately, diagnosis, treatment and after-care have all improved by leaps and bounds since then and, I sincerely hope that you all continue to keep well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine, thank you so much for your kind message, wishing you good health too. Claire (clazza).

  • Hi I'm Bev, also new to group I'm so uplifted by everyone's stories , I was diagnosed with triple neg breast cancer in December 2020 had a Mastectomy then February found out it was secondary spread to my lung I had part of my lung removed in March just as we lockdown started I was so lucky , I've had lots of scans PET and CT scans all have come back clear , as you all probably feel the same with each new clear scan you feel more and more positive even though you know there is no cure , I'm positive and starting back to work on Monday , good luck to you all xxxx

  • Hi Bev

So great to hear your doing so well, it's a tough battle I know but I'm doing good now considering I was diagnosed over 5 years ago with secondary breast cancer. Keep up the fight even through those darker days  stay in touch and let me know how you get on, all the best, claire

  • Hi Clazza, so uplifting to hear a little of your experience, that's what I'm hoping for clear scans I'm so happy for you, my next PET scan is in two weeks I'm feeling well and happy that I started back to work Monday just a couple of days a week but I've enjoyed it, take care x

  • OMG- that is truly amazing.

I was talking to someone the other day, who said some cancers are becoming more and more like chronic diseases, which you check ever so often, to see if they are behaving themselves. Obviously , not for everyone, but great that your cells are behaving themselves.
