Hand and Foot Syndrome - Capecitabine and something 'not very nice' that happened yesterday

Hi All ...... The Capecitabine chemo drug I am on is causing me H&F syndrome. My feet feel like they are burning and are swelling underneath on the 'padded' areas. I havent meantioned it to my consultant at this point as it is manageable and I do not want him taking me off the drug because of the risk to me of cancer recurrence.  I have ony just completed my first two cycles of eight. Has anyone else had this difficulty? or  have any tips on creams etc which will help keep it at bay?     . Many thanks         Max x

  • Hi Max56 - Was the Vitamin supplement to assist with the hand/foot syndrome or another side effect of Crxppycitabine?

  • An update. There is no immediate answer to HFS. Only prevention management. This is a dose reduction while managing efficacy, plus minimising HFS, keeping it at bay. Yes moisturiser creams help. I was prescribed B6 tabs 2 3x day,,plus UREA Cream And Aveeno cream (get from boots) all on prescription. They help don't fix. Post chemo HFS has come back. Avoid tight fitting shoes, socks, heavy walking, dancing, hiking as this spreads the drug into the tissues from the small blood vessels, leaching out. Avoid heat to hands and feet again this encourages leaching of the chemo drugs the causes HFS. Use a cold press, frozen peas for a few mins ncan help
