Breast cancer: waiting for biopsy results to see if cancer has spread

Hi all. I was diagnosed last June with mastectomy, lymph node removed and reconstruction in September. Life was plodding along nicely and I managed to get back to work. March this year my reconstructed breast became very swollen and I was left unable to move my arm, I tried everything and even ended up in A&E and was prescribed antibiotics as they thought it was an infection. After seeing multiple consultants 2 biopsies were taken to see if cancer has spread. I get my results on the 21st and am so very scared. I was wondering if any one else has experienced the same ??!

  • Hello Kez-73,

I am sorry to hear about what you've been through since March when your reconstructed breast became very swollen and you were unable to move your arm. What a stressful time it must be for you and it's a shame that the antibiotics didn't sort it out. It's good that they are being thorough and have taken biopsies but it must be so difficult for you to have to go through this wait for results again. It's still ten days to go before you get your results and it must feel for you like time is standing still and it is normal to be scared in your situation. Try if you can not to anticipate the worst and to try and keep distracted if you can in the coming days doing things you enjoy and keeping well away from the temptation to look anything up on Google as this will only make you more anxious and never gives satisfactory answers.

We have some useful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news which you might be interested in reading. I just wanted you to know you are not alone and others might be in the same situation right now waiting for biopsy results and worried that their cancer might have spread. I hope that they will pop by and say hello and share their experience with you. To encourage more replies, I've also added more information to your title so that it will hopefully attract members with relevant experience.

Best of luck for the 21st! Do come back here and let us know what you've found out if you get a moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply, I’m ok when with friends and family and can put on a brave face. It’s when I’m alone I start to worry. I know I’m not the only one. I will let you know how I get on xx
