Coping whilst waiting for biopsy results

Hi I'm.new to this and feel so scared and worried. Any tips how to cope whist waiting for biopsy results, only taken 2 days ago but wasn't expecting these to be taken, I'm.49 and felt lump in left breast (had syst in right one 5 years ago ) so just assumed would be the same but no doctor said there are 2 'suspicious lumps' so not prepared for this and just don't know how to cope!

  • Hi Poppy1900,

Sorry to hear what you are going through it sounds very unexpected. The waiting is always the worst part. I just tried to get on with my life and do what I usually do. Trying to keep occupied and busy is good. Going to the supermarket or watching something funny on TV has helped.

I have breast cancer but am waiting on my lymph node biopsy results and a biopsy of a second lump. I just keep thinking there's no amount of worrying that will change things and worrying will only make me more stressed. I can't change my results at this stage. It's so much easier said than done though.

I hope you don't have to wait too much longer for your results. Best of luck.

  • Thank you, yes it was very unexpected, my appointment is on 26 May 2021 for my results, I had 3 biopsys taken as they saw 2 lumps in my breast and some changes in the lymph nodes so took a biopsy from there, I am going to try and carry on as I have a 10 year old daughter and a single parent so I need too for her sake. Is it normal to feel in a daze about it all.

Thank you for taking time to reply and hope you get your results soon too.

    Take care xx

  • Hopefully you will be able to keep busy with your daughter. I have a soon to be 6 month old so had a lot of distractions. I can relate to feeling in a daze about things, I think I went from feeling numb to getting upset and back again, almost like things aren't real sometimes.
The 10 days will hopefully go quickly so you can find out your results. I get my mine on Tuesday.

    Take care x

  • Hi Poppy

snap! I have a 2cm suspicious lump my biopsy was taken on Friday, I am 48, no history of cancer in the family.

I am trying to stay positive and if it is cancer then it's been found and I'll know what I'm dealing with.
You must remember there is so much they can do. The doctor even said to me as cancers go it's one of the better ones to have...

keep smiling, lots of walks and my iPad has helped enormously if you need your mind to switch off, I play games on it or crosswords.

I get my results in 10 days so you should be around the same time. Let me know how you get on or chat here anytime xx

  • You certainly have a distraction with a soon to be 6 month old! Feels somewhat easier that I'm experiencing similar feelings to how you did or are too. Today is the 1st day I'm on my own in the day as my daughter at school, feeling ok atm, been shopping and got to tidy the house up!

Thinking of you too whilst you are awaiting your results tomorrow!

Please drop me a message to let me know how you are and how you have gotten on.

    Take care xx

  • Hi Lucyjan

Thank you for replying, we both had biopsys then on the same day! My results due 26th May where I have appointed at hospital.

Same here I'm trying to stay positive, the weekend I was just in a state of what if? I felt shocked, numb, worried, scared all at the same time.  Yes similar age to you, no family history either, and doctor was positive saying whatever it is we will treat it, so hanging onto those words.

    How are you feeling today?

Would be nice to talk if thats ok and definitely let you know how my results go and you let me know too.

    Take care xx

  • Hey Poppy

thanks for your lovely message. I'm ok today, believe it or not I went shopping for my wedding dress! I'm trying to just carry on as normal, I have the odd millisecond of panic now and then but luckily it passes.
Do you have good people around you, I hope so.

I have no date confirmed for my results they just said about 10 days and I will see the consultant. They don't give any out by phone or letter even in the case of it being benign.
I hope you have had a good day and get a good nights sleep.

    Lucy x

  • Hi Lucy

Sounds like you had a lively day yesterday looking at wedding dresses, is your wedding booked?

I slept well last night but just having the anxiety feeling when I wake up, and start to panic abit, but then try and say to myself let's just enjoy the day as best I can.  Yes I have my sister and my son, he's coming with me to get the results.  Got a few close friends which is good also, just getting back into going out to meet up now that the lockdown has been further relaxed and alot more places are open.

How about you? Do u have good support too?

Whatever you do today have an enjoyable day, and hope to speak to you xx

    Take care
