B3 Leison - Surgery Needed

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to hear from other people in this position.

I had some clear nipple discharge and was referred to my local breast clinic. I didn't feel a lump and they didn't either but I have history of breast  cancer in the family so I was sent for an ultrasound. While I was there she found a growth and took 2 core needle biopsies and left a marker.

I got my results yesterday that said it wasn't cancerous but the cells were abnormal and so I would need an excision biopsy to remove it and then it would be sent for final pathology.

Its just the one lump but I forgot to ask how big it was.

I'm relieved but now a little confused that it still needs to be checked further. I'm also nervous about the surgery.

Has anyone else had a B3 lesion and or had this surgery that can offer me some advice?

Thank you so much.

  • That's fantastic news Maggie. I hope everyone else's results came back ok too.

    Happy Christmas,

  • Hi Nelly

yes, I did have pain before they found out what was happening, and it was at the site they later did the vacuum excision on - but this could have been a coincidence as I also had cysts around the area.   I hope everything goes ok for you - my only advice would be to take a couple of painkillers before you go for the vacuum as it takes the edge off the pain, particularly if you found the mammogram part itself painful (which I did).  All the best x

  • Hi Nelly, I had a vacuum biopsy and then a vacuum excision, a few weeks apart.  Mine was 9mm, so about the same size as yours, and they got it all out ok, via local anaesthetic - hopefully they'll be able to do the same with you.  I had the first procedure sitting up in a chair, which I didn't cope well with as I have low blood pressure and hate the sight of blood.  For the second one, they did it with me lying on my side, and it was much, much better, and no feeling faint or bleeding.  Plus they gave me a cup of tea and biscuit too after (but I'd have preferred something a bit stronger!).

Hope everything goes ok - let me know how you get on.

  • You are much braver than me Nelly!  I had a mammogram afterwards, to check everything was gone and the marker was in place correctly - that was the only time I opened my eyes throughout the whole procedure .   I think the most stressful bit by far was waiting for the results, rather than the procedure itself, and my heart goes out to you, knowing you have to go through all of this.  At least you're not on your own, as the women on this site are of great support to each other.  Take care x
