Just joined today

Hi All

I joined today and I am pleased to be here, I have been reading lots of posts before joining. I am a lady who lives alone and I am 64 years old. I have 3 grown up daughters and 5 grandchildren. The reason I am here is because recently, well yesterday actually I went to my doctors with a painless swelling under my right arm, I could not feel a define separated lump just the whole area is swollen it feels like it is on the muscle bit that comes from the top part of the under arm and leads to the actual pit itself, it feels hard and the whole muscle bit is affected, not sure what is causing it and the doctor felt the area for ages and could not say what it could be, he did acknowledge that it was more fuller then the left one, so he did an urgent referral which was yesterday, to the breast clinic at the hospital for investigation, he did examine my breasts and said they felt normal, I did read the posts here about underarm lumps but I am still worried and anxious, I am hoping I dont have to wait too long..

  • Thanks for the virtual hug! I know I shouldn't be getting so worked up, but I have been googling and everything points to cancer! I shall just have to wait until I see the specialist on monday... I will let you know what they say, I think its important to update the forum so others may see. Xx

  • HI Suzy,

We all get worked up at this stage.  There are just too many unknowns to deal with. Try to steer clear of 'Dr Google'. A lot of the information given is out of date, poorly researched and aimed at the spectacular cases. It will drive you crazy if you continue to do this.

I hope that your consultant can give you some indication on Monday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

I have just got back from hospital. I had examination and ultrasound and everything is normal. No breast cancer or swollen lymph nodes. It seems the swelling under my arm is just the way I am made. I am relieved to say the least. Thank you for your support

    Hi Suzy,

I amm delighted to hear that you got the answers you wanted from the hosptal today. I can almost feel your relief from here.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Yes I am relieved, I did feel foolish that I had thought the worst but the consultant was very kind and said he could understand my concerns due to the underarm being fuller. The lady who did the ultra sound was lovely and very thorough, told me all she could see was normal tissue and muscle and no abnormalities, she said she could see my lymph nodes and they were not swollen and were normal too.  Xx

    Hi Suzy,

It makes such a difference when you get a pleasant consultant and radiologist. Just having someone explain all that they can see on the ultrasound logiclly and to let you know that all looked normal must have been a huge relief. They must be used to people fearing the worst when they go to see them, as we all seem to think the worst at this stage.

I'm so glad that it all turned out well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
