Biopsy results.

Hi,

I’m new here and I’m just after a little reassurance really?!

I had a Colposcopy after an urgent smear referral following the discovery of possible CGIN roughly two weeks ago. The consultant took a biopsy and told me that I would receive my results in the post.

Well - yesterday, I received a phone call asking me to go today to see the consultant to discuss my results and have a scan. It obviously came as a bit of a shock as I wasn’t expecting it so I was just wondering if anybody else had had this happen? I asked if I had anything to be worried about and the lady said that I just really needed to go in and see them. Also, I’ve absolutely no idea what type of scan to expect - has anybody any ideas??

Thank you so much.x

  • Hi VicKat1

so sorry to hear your news but as you say great that it has been caught early. What treatment do you have to have? Xx

  • Hi Minska

that is such positive news to hear, I am so glad you are doing well. It gives us all hope Xx

  • Hi Eaton

I know lots of ladies who have done very well, and are doing very well on the treatments. It’s quite hard going but over quite quickly. I feel so well these days it’s hard to believe what’s all gone on! xx

  • Hi ladies, I’m not sure about treatment yet. I’ve an MRI on Wednesday and then I’ll be discussed at an MDT meeting a week on Tuesday to see how they want to proceed. A big part of me is hoping for a full hysterectomy. I know that might sound weird but I’ve got two grown up children, I definitely don’t want anymore so it seems silly to run the risk of this reoccurring.

Minska - that is excellent news and reassuring to newbies like me and it’s lovely to have somewhere to go for advice and support.

Eaton - keep us posted on your journey and good luck!!!

  • Hi VicKat

It will depend on what the MRI shows, whether you’d be able to have a hysterectomy, and normally it would be a radical hysterectomy rather than full, which means losing the top third of the vagina. Usually it’s only done for early stage, and depends on tumour size. My tumour wasn’t too big-less than 4cm, but I was staged at 2b because it was growing into the vaginal wall, which made a radical hysterectomy impossible.

Will you be having a CT scan? I had that after the MRI to check for any spread. Luckily it hadn’t spread, but the treatment would have likely been the same even if it had. The standard is 25 sessions of radiotherapy and 5 sessions of chemo, which is Cisplatin so you don’t lose your hair, then brachytherapy which is the internal radiation which I didn’t have. I had extra radiotherapy, so 32 sessions in total. And I only had 4 chemo because my blood count dropped too low to have the last one. I was told that wouldn’t matter.

Still, it was effective treatment and I had a complete response-my tumour disappeared, thank goodness!

No matter what treatment you have, it’s very effective. Just keep positive and take one day at a time! xx

  • Thanks for the information Minska - I feel like I’m learning all the time!

They haven’t mentioned a CT scan - I’m only booked in for an MRI at the moment.

Its just the waiting now - I just want to get on with whatever it is I need to do to give this cancer the kick up the butt it deserves!!

  • The mri will give detail on where the tumour is located and how big it is.

It will last about half an hour and it’s very noisy! But you have the right attitude..get on with it and get rid of it...exactly the same as I was. Positivity is a huge factor in all of this..keep that attitude and just get on with it. Once you can get on with it you start to regain control and get this unwelcome visitor out of you!  xxx

  • Hi VicKat1 and Minska

firstly I hope your scan went well today Vickat1?

I went for my results today and was told I had adenocarcinoma. Not the best news! Told it is treatable but need to have scan first to see if it has spread.

Fingers crossed it hasn’t spread as they told me me I would only have to have a full hysterectomy but if it has I will  need chemo/radiotherapy.

Just hope scans come back ok. Xx

  • Hi Eaton

I’m sorry to hear your news...but yes, it’s very treatable. I found the CT scan much preferable to the mri, although I was really scared in case it showed a spread. It didn’t, and hopefully you will find exactly the same. Keep us posted as you go along. Always here for any support if you need it. xx

  • Hi VitKat1

That is fantastic news for you that it hasn’’t spread. And great that you get the results on the same day. Is your next step a hysterectomy?  Xx
