Fibroadenomas

Hi everyone,

I just want to start by saying I’m unsure if this is even the right website to talk about this on, because fortunately I was lucky enough to not be diagnosed with cancer - but I’m looking for advice if anyone has had anything similar. Secondly I want to say how incredible and brave everyone on here is!

Okay, now to the point. I’m 22 and I had my appointment at the breast clinic yesterday because I found a lump in my left breast and it was sore. So after having a consultation and ultrasound I was told I have multiple fibroadenomas in each breast. I’ve had 2 of these lumps in my right breast since I was about 17/18 and it turns out they want to remove those 2 as they are 5cm and 3cm. (Funny how I went about my left breast and it’s my right one that’s causing problems!)

So, to wind up my long post I just wanted to know of anyone’s experiences on fibroadenoma removal? Was it painful etc? Thank you for any info or advice

  • Hello girls.

I have a fibroadenoma and had a biopsy done. Found out today that I need to have it removed because of my age (I'm 35) and apparently the outer layer of the lump has a potential to grow.

I'm a bit scared, to be honest, of the surgery. I'm waiting for the date and have many questions. I have large boobs, so what bra would be the best to have after the surgery? I need support and simple cotton bras do not work for me. Are here any big-booby girls and can advise?

All these news are spiking my anxiety and stress level right now and I feel that I need a big cry over the weekend xx

  • HI Maggie_Edi,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Many people are advised to have their fibroadenoma removed as a precaution. I haven't had fibroadenoma, but I have had a lumpectomy 11 years ago and a double mastectomy 10 years ago. Like you, I was terrified of the surgery, but it really was all very straightforward.

I had large boobs too and, although I wore a very soft bra for the first few weeks(Asda online), it didn't give me enough support and I quickly returned to my old M&S favourires - the 'Total Support'. I have avoided any underwired bras since I had my first surgery. It will depend on where your post-surgery scar is as to whether or not you can wear them. My scar was under my breast initially, so I found the underwire quite sore.

I hope that your date comes through soon and that all goes well. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

If you feel like a big cry over the weekend, go ahead. Crying is a good release valve for all that pent up emotion.

  • Hi Laurenevie!

I've just come across this thread and your message caught my attention as I am also 28 and my multiple fibroadomas hurt too! They ache when I'm due on on but they also hurt if they are knocked or touched/moveed too much.

ive had mine since 2012 and I've had more grow during that time, I've currently got 4! Annoyingly, they all seem to grow quite a bit but then stop when they get to the size £2 coin!

im debating whether or not to get them removed, I've spoken to the surgeon about it before but then decided against it as it was during lockdown 1.0 and I thought I'd see if anymore grow. What did you choose to do in the end?

Everyone else's comments and replies has also been very reassuring so any comments welcome
