Possible cancerous polyp in bowel told today

Hi

Been a tough day which started with CT scan results that unexpectedly came back showing a growth. I didn't cope very well in with the consultant really. I think im starting to get my head round things. Because there's been no sample of it via colonoscopy instead a virtual CT scan, I've not been diagnosed with cancer. But because it's 3/4cm one likelihood is that it is. It's in my large bowel and I've been told there's no evidence of it having spread into my liver or lungs. Im hanging a bit bcos It's getting removed but I won't know if its cancerous til after. I originally had a anal fissure after a cist was removed that they misagnosed as piles. I was then told over 12 months ago I had h pylori after a camera down my stomach. This was treated twice before it went. I put my anema down to this and possible stomach ulcers. My gastric health has been poor since and it's took longer than it should to get this last scan. The colonoscopy showed nothing but the CT scan has. I've pre op liver and lung scans to have, which doctor says are routine, he's not looking for cancer as CT scan showed no spread. Then 5/6 weeks before op.  I'm 45 and have no history in family.  Consultant was surprised it's there but obviously it's been with me a number of years. I hate operations but I just want it done now. I'm moving house next week so I've no choice but to be positive or it won't happen. I think it's been caught in time so I have to be thankful it's coming out

  • Hi

I've had a lump since around February and today had an examination at the hospital. It feels large to me as it's constantly uncomfortable and I can feel it through my vaginal wall. It's not in there but testing against it or in the wall. He examined it today (think it was an endoscopy). When he and my GP examined the lump it absolutely killed. Can only describe as though it's raw to touch. I now have to wait for a colonoscopy (delayed to possibly three weeks due to COVID-19. He said they would remove the lump and send off for testing.
I may be being paranoid but he seemed different after the examination and asked me if I had a family.
I am freaking out as never been through this before. He seemed confused that it hurt so much. But it only did when he touched the actual lump.
I'm sorry if I sound like a nut case. Just worried as have kids and a family.
Has anyone on here had a situation like this? As in pain and the ability to feel a hard lump through the vagina?
    Kelly

  • Hi Kelly

You're definitely  not a nut case hun, we all feel the same way especially at the mere mention of a biopsy but that doesn’t mean it will be a bad result. Maybe the consultant asked you questions about family in case you’ve had a vaginal trauma during birth or something has prolapsed...I don’t know because I’m not medical but try not to think the worst. Easier said than done I know

Having to wait because of covid is the worst because it gives you time to think.

I get soooooo frustrated when I see protesters and ppl off to the seaside as though nothing is different. I blame bozo for not making social distancing clear. (that’s my moan to those irresponsible ppl who can’t put up with distancing for just a bit longer) but I think most NHS services are just about nearing normal service now hun so hopefully not to long for you to wait.

I had a nurse ring me out of the blue and I was in for the scan the next day.

I’ve had just over three months to think my situation through. I think I really am ready for the loony bin lol. Xx

  • Hi Cupcake

I'm not medical hun so I can’t help that way but I would telephone you’re GP as he will have had a report too and can explain in a bit more detail. I asked my GP for detail and he was really good at explaining the technical terms but only because I was insistent but now I try not to scrutinise detail to much as I started to get anxious and couldn’t eat or sleep as my mind was imagining different scenarios. It’s hard not to want info but I have decided I just want the basics. When I went for my endoscopy they asked if I wanted it all explained and I just said no I’m happy for you to just get on with it. They just laughed at me :-) we all approach it differently. I can’t deal with to much info.xx

  • Hi Guys. I've been reading your posts on polyps and I'd like to thank you for the information. I had a colonoscpy 3 weeks ago where they found 2 small polyps but one large one 35mm up in the corner of the colon. They took biopsies and tattooed the polyp and referred me for CT scans. 2 weeks later there was a MDT meeting were I was informed the CT scans were clear but biopsies had shown changes. I have been referred to the hospital and I'm having an assessment consultation next Monday. They have mentioned EMR and said I'm under the complex polyp team. I've googled EMR and it looks like they will go down my throat this time and I'm so worried as I know I will not tolerate this procedure. I have had one a few years back and they had to stop as I went into panic mode. My gag reflexes are really bad. I'm worried that 35mm polyp is big and I'm hoping I can be put to sleep for it.? Also for my colonoscpy I used movi prep and it made me vomit. As anyone used picolax and do you think I can request this instead. Thank you.

  • Hi Clare,   My husband has been told he needs a right hemicolectomy but wouldn't survive the operation.  I've asked about removal by colonoscopy but was told it's not possible.  Desperately seeking a second opinion as otherwise his polyp will grow and eventually block his bowel :-(

  • Can anyone recommend a surgeon who specialises in large and complex polyps please?

  • Christie is a hospital that I’ve heard specialises in cancer. You could ask your GP to refer your hubby there. If you search Google for best colorectal nhs doctor/hospital that should also bring specialist hospitals and you can ask your nhs GP to refer you to one or if you’ve already seen a consultannt, for a second opinion. I had a very large polyp removed myself. PM me If I can help anymore. I hope you find someone who can help your husband.x

  • Do you mind if I ask what was the outcome?

  • Hi Kadash, how's things been since? Was your Large Polyp cancerous? What operation did you have to remove it if you don't mind me asking? Thanks
