Just diagnosed with rectal cancer, still waiting on more results of mri & colonoscopys on wednesday
I forget the staging but will find out. Had a bloke in today who had the same he had his op two years ago and is okay now. I think all you can do now its keep busy! I will get Anne to write but don't focus on the stages as that's over technical and is meaningless. Is is a bit like being all technical with the garage that fixes you're car. Just concentrate on two things - keeping as fit as possible and trusting the doctors. They understand all this stages etc.its their job. Mountains are climbed in short easy steps! Best wishes and don't worry.i will get Anne to write xx
Had my CT scan today, think it was scariest of all. As I no its to determine wither it has spread to other parts & being sent home with no results to be told now until Friday :(. . At least that's all the hoking & poking done until they make a decision on my op/treatments. I've done ok up til now, another few days wont make a difference :p. Just been feeling tired the last few days., think it's just emotions taking over & waiting about getting to me
Well done you ! = well thts another hurdle jumped!! A CT scan is not a big thing - its just a noisy unexpected machine = Anne is not keen on them - but they do the job and there is no alternative. Now the wait while the doctors discuss it and make a care plan to get this cancer out of you.
As you wisely say - its not the illness - its all the emotions = they are so very tiring and stressing. I think you have done very well and now its time just to put it on the back burner and get on with things. Anne and I will be thinking and praying for you and yours this week. Anne says that they may want to do a MRI scan .
Lets now just hope and put it on one side: Friday will come quick enough. So just keep busy - we are trying to sort out the garden.
Thinknig of you

Hi Steve & anne , went for my results today, cancer is confined to my rectum only . Best news I've herd in wks. I will be left with a bag as it is so low down &,there no other option. I can live with that. Start radiotheropy for 6 wks to shrink the tumour for less an op, & no talk of chemo until the sergeon gets in ther & checks the nodes ,feeling relieved .
Hi I was diagnosed with bowel/rectal cancer in august 2014. I had to have radiotherapy and chemo to shrink, and in Feb this year I had an operation to remove the tumour. Operation not that nice, but rather that. I may be a long journey, but worth it. Try not to worry too much. My thoughts are with you.
Hi tonim, I met with my sergeon today with all the results , I start my radiotheropy this wk for 6 wks , to try shrinking b4 the op, did u have to have your rectum removed ? Or just the tumour ? Thanks xx
We will be thinking of you. The radio isn't too bead. Take a book or some music and a drink with you. There is lots of hanging arround! Expect to feel tired mid afternoon. Let us know how it goes. Will you be havingthe chemo as well - capicetabine tablets are the usual - great big tablets. They are okay. Keep warm and happy = the journey is beginning and your friends here will walk with you on it. Just think - you got to get this cancer out and then things will be okay again.
Thinking of you and yours
xx
Steven
Hi Kat,
I've been following your thread, but not said 'Hi' as yet!
Just wanted to wish you all the best with your radiotherapy. Once you've had your surgery (or before) I've found a really supportive Facebook group called The Colostomy Association - it's a closed group that you request to join and any news feeds don't show on your usual facebook page so it's discreet. I've got an ileostomy as I had rectal Cancer surgery in 2013 and the site has been informative and supportive. Social media may not be your thing, but thought I'd mention it.
Take care and let us know how you're getting on, Jo xx
Still waiting to hear when my radiotheropy starts. Every days a drag. It's getting so sore going to the loo I'm nearly scared to eat , weights dropping off , pain seems to be worse at nite , I've held up ok til now, starting to get really agitated & frustrated, been 6 wks since diagnosis, :((
Hi Kat,
Sorry to read how you're so sore. This may be a daft question, but have you contacted your medical team to let them know how much discomfort you're in? I'm not sure why you're sore, but when I had soreness in 'a certain area' I was given a special cream (Diprobase) which helped to soften and lubricate my poor bot!
Please don't suffer in silence, have a word with your lead nurse (or go back to your GP) - it may even expedite your radiotherapy treatment.
Take care and let us know how you're doing.
