new n scared i've bowel cancer

Hi, not sure were to start, here goes  Im 42 years old and i think i may have bowel cancer. i have i.b.s and arthritis in my lower spine.  For the past 4 months i havent been feeling right, my bowel habits have changed a lot( stools r looser and smell more). I am also tired all the time and feel like sleeping all day (but i cant) i also have quite a bit of discomfort in my stomach, and the wind OMG i cant go anywhere cause i smell really bad, it was never like this.  I went to my gp in January and she said probably flare up of ibs but done a blood test. results came back i was anaemic(which would explain the tiredness).  i was put put on iron tablets.  A few weeks ago i went back to the gp cause i was still bad so she done more bloods and sent a referral for a follow up. Bloods came back the same as before even though ive been on the iron tablets for 6 weeks. i am awaiting results from fecal occult test and other blood work( not sure what) bloods came back negative for cealiac disease. I dont want to tell any family or friends, i'd rather wait till ive got the full picture myself.  I am so scared ive got bowel cancer.

  • Got a date for my scan, e referrals office phoned through today, 28 Feb at 4, full blood count came back normal so that is good news, just waiting for liver function, glucose and cholesterol and CRP.

  • Hi sorry for bothering you. How did you get on? Hope all is well

  • Hi Hayley,

I realise this is a really old post now and I really hope you are doing well!

I am replying because I am 42, strong family history, went to my GP because of fatigue, severe constipation but (tmi- sorry) diarrhoea and pellets at the same time IYKWIM... Anyway. Blood tests came back OK, other than CRP which is abnormal, my FIT test has come back as significant bleeding in the bowel. Doctor referred and they are seeing me next week, his words when I asked if it's cancer were that he hopes not but we are catching it early. To say I am terrified is an understatement. Especially since my brother had bowel cancer 2.5 years ago and another brother had cancerous polyps removed twice.

I guess I just wondered how the whole process was for you?

  • Hi, I'm 42 and have very similar symptoms to you. My FIT test came back 'significantly positive'. I'm fatigued, constipated, then diarrhoea, iron deficient (picked up as part of routine blood monitoring for arthritis medication), bloating, gassy and very full very quick. The stool and gas/bloating I put down to medication as I take laxatives to help with the side effects of morphine. I have a 12 year old son and husband and to say I'm terrified is an understatement. I'm awaiting a 2 week referral for a colonoscopy. I'm just utterly utterly terrified xx

  • Hi, how are you doing now? Hopefully all is well x
