Still in shock after ultrasound scan..

Hi everyone,

Thought I would introduce myself..I am a 35 year old mum of 2 and I have had a lot of health issues over the years, which has resulted in numerous operations.

The worst of which was a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy on 4th July last year, which I suffered a lot of complications from, everything was going ok until about 6 weeks ago when I started getting quite a lot of abdominal pain which started to get worse..after my best friend nagging me to go to the doctor,my GP straight away suspected adhesions to be the problem after she examined me.So she referred me for an Ultrasound scan.

I had my Ultrasound scan last Wednesday and was completely blown away by what the radiographer showed me..it wasn't adhesions causing the problems at all..they found around 7 cysts and one of them was large being about the size of a golf ball.

Well I was in total shock and she said she was going to fastrack my results back to the GP and that I had to ring this morning to make an appointment to discuss what happens next..well after waiting for 5 days with allsorts running through my mind, luckily I have a very supportive partner and family to keep me calm,I wasn't happy when I rang the doctors to be told that my doctor couldn't see me for over a week and the receptionist wouldn't give me an emergency appointment.I was told that i would have to wait another 24 hrs and if the doctor got chance she would ring me tomorrow morning.

Well after getting very upset and wound up,and I have been in bed all day today as the pain is so severe..I called back and asked to be put through to the practice manager,at which point they took me seriously and went to have a word with my doctor who agreed that it's not the sort of conversation to have over the telephone,so she has cancelled some appointments for tomorrow to fit me in face to face.

I am worried sick, and my family are too,but I am trying to stay calm as best I can.I really hope it isn't cancer, but I didn't know where else to turn to so I hope you guys don't mind me getting things off my chest one here.

I would be really grateful of any advice if anyone has been through a similar thing.

  • Hi I have been reading your post and although I haven't been through this myself thought I would share my close friends experience with you. She had similar pain and swelling of her stomach and for months was going to the GP who didn't seem concerned until she demanded further testing, she had the ca125 blood test which came back extremely high, an ultrasound came back showing a large mass 10cm diameter on her ovary. MRI scan couldn't determine what it was had some features of a cyst but some that weren't consistent. She also had to wait months while all this was happening, MDT meeting decided treatment would be a hysterectomy with removal of effected ovary. She had the op still non the wiser wether it was cancer or not, the surgeon and consultant gyn came to see her after to tell her the biopsy  was inconclusive (basically they didn't know what it was), they sent it to doctors in Ireland who didn't know and eventually sent it to America who

were the only ones to come back no tell her it

wasn't cancer. They did however say they were amazed she was still able to stand as the growth was not only huge but had twisted around her ovary 3 times. Moral of the story is that everything may point towards the C word but they just have to be cautious it may be nothing and once it's out you will be fine x

  • Hello my name is phoeberose I'm having tests for ovarian cancer

  • I had a ca125 blood test on 19 sept followed by virginsl ultrasound on 26 sept and abdominal and pelvic ultrasound on 4 oct how long do I wait for results from consultant at hospital

  • I understand your anxiety. My sister has just been diagnosed bowel cancer, spread to liver and lungs.

I cannot explain how I feel except to say I have cried a river. My sister took the news without a word and has not shown any emotion except to apologise for putting me through this.

I am trying to convince her we need to tell family but she is not there yet and tells me she cannot cope with their emotions. When she has a surgery date, things will have to change.

She first went to GP in April with symptoms but not considered urgent. So last wk 4 maths later we get this deviating news.

I so hope that your GP has better news than you are expecting.

    Good luck

  • 4 months !!!! Why does it take so long.  I dont understand why it would take 4 months to assess and diagnose from tests.. My son was told by his gp 3 and a half months ago he may have soft tissue sarcoma of his calf muscle after having an ultrasound at his local hospital .He had another scan and mri at a different hospital on 3rd Sept. He has rang his gp this morning for results after ringing for them all last week to be told it will be another 7 weeks before the results will come through. How can this be right. Cancer spreads  Why if cancer is suspected is this being left to allow the possibility for it to spread.
