Urgent suspected cancer referral

Hi everyone,

Last week I was referred by my nurse for suspected cancer. It's a mole on my back that has changed and grown very quickly. My question is does anyone know appropriately how long I will wait to hear to see someone? Also will I be contacted by telephone or letter? Thank you

  • Hi, I’m in a similar position but in my area the 2 weeks wait is not being met. For several years I had a large freckle on my leg which after several years was diagnosed as a melanoma and removed surgically 4 years ago. Post op histology showed it was malignant.
I now have very similar large freckle (>1cm) on my arm which I’ve been watching for 3 years,, and which has recently grown and darkened.
a week ago I saw GP who said it was Seb K and attempted to freeze it off.
it didn’t scab over and fall off and is now dark and raised.
it’s very like the one on my leg which was Stage 2b I think when it was removed.
    i. Managed to see another GP today who did urgent referral to dermatology under 2 week wait target.
I rang them to book and they said minimum 3-4 weeks. I'm worried sick - what can I do?

  • Hi I was just wondering how you are getting on?

  • Did you speak to your GP to get an appt? Hope all is well with you

  • Hey, I'm so sorry. I thought I had already replied to you. I've still not received an appointment. I called the hospital today and was told she can't give me any idea how long it will take as the list changes daily but that does not necessarily mean I go up the list. That's now 7 weeks since I have been referred. Tried to get doc appointment as I have been really tired. I mean really exhausted and no appetite. I know that could be due to the stress of waiting but I can't help but think the worst. Couldn't get one today so I will try again tomorrow x

  • Hey Susan k. I'm the same, still not received an appointment and it has been 7 weeks since referral. Hospital no help at all. I hope you get seen very soon x
