What to expect from breast clinic appointment

Good morning,

Hope everyone is well.

I've recently found a lump In my right breast and after a visit to the doctor they have reffered me to the Breat clinic urgently under the two week wait.

I have my appointment next Thursday 7th July.

I wondered if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect at the appointment? I'm feeling so anxious about it so I thought I would reach out.

Thank you in advance for any replies

  • Tell me about it! I can't stand the not knowing and the waiting it's absolute agony!! I've been waiting for results for over a week now and it's getting painful. Can't wait to here back and I really do hope your appointment goes okay. Wear some nice joggers or something comforting and before you know it it will be home time and you can get a cuppa.
    All the best x

  • Hi Gemma,

I had my breast clinic appointment just over 6 years ago. On my letter it said 11 out of 12 people the lump is nothing to worry about so I assumed I'd be in the 11 & went on my own. I had an ultrasound, followed by a mammogram and then a biopsy. I had to go in with the consultant afterwards where I was told he was 95% certain I had breast cancer. I then waited 8 days for the biopsy results - the longest 8 days of my life!! I had a 3cm tumor (& also a 0.5cm tumor they found later on an MRI) I had to have a mastectomy & chose to have reconstructive surgery at the same time. I was really scared but I received the most fantastic care and nearly 6 years on I'm fitter & healthier than I was before my diagnosis. I see myself as very lucky - if I hadn't gone, it wouldn't have been picked up until routine screening at 50ish - I was 46 when I went.

I'm not trying to scare you - most people are absolutely fine. If you are in the minority it is very treatable and you've been sensible and gone early.

    Fingers crossed for you.
