Lung cancer spread no treatment

Hello

My dad 82 was fit and well till 4 weeks ago, he woke up and was unsteady on his feet called gp who saod didnt think its a stroke and to see how it goes.

Same thing happened 2 weeks later so gp sent to a and e.

Kept in 2 days comfirmed with stroke. And looked like another older one as well on scan.

Had chest xray while in which saw a legion.

Booked in for scans following week and sent home.

On the saturday he slipped off the side of the bed couldnt fell his arm or leg. Ambulance came and took him in. Drs said a seizure from the stroke.

Mum called on monday to ask how he was after stroke who ever answered phone said not a stroke its a brain tumor.

She asked for dr to call who then said lung cancer spread to brain and liver and 2 months to live.

This is all from a scan. Cancelled mri and put him on steroids and anti seizure drugs.

Not been offered any treatment or even a biopsy.

His actually on stroke ward.

Apart from the numbness in his arm and leg he hasnt had a single sympton no cough no headaches litrally nothing. Cooks shops walks dog everyday. And such a keen gardener which looks like chelsea flower show.

Any ideas?

  • Hi Ollie!
He was finally allowed home last Friday after first round of chemo. He seems to be doing well considering. A nurse has arranged for him to have some equipment installed to help him about a bit better at home. Turns out he asked doctor to be honest before he left hospital and apparently doctor said one month. Mum had told me months, so I felt a little hopeless for a short time and then I decided I'm not going to worry because it won't change anything and I want to be as positive as I can when we video call and speak etc

My Son who is 9 is struggling with it all so I'm spending most of my time trying to emotionally support him as best I can and to try and ease the fear he is feeling x my dads eating well and resting well and he said he feels some improvement with his symptoms pain wise since chemo so I'm hoping he is one of the lucky ones statistically and that he will shock all the doctors!! Can't lose hope.
Just want to see him ASAP now but most places are still closed down near my mums (b&b's/hotels) or too far if my husband drops us there. I don't drive so I need to stay near them etc with the two little ones. Hoping in the coming weeks something becomes available and I can catch a visit in the week before his 3rd round of chemo x

How are you Ollie and your Dad & family.
Hoping all is well and improving

  • Aww bless her I hope she gets home very soon.

My dads ok had a bit of back pain so my mum called the hospital 3 times no one called her back.

When I got home from work I called them and spoke to a lovely lady who told me to call the gp, which I did and they gave him codeine.

Biopsy is on monday as mix up with appointment.

Will be 5 weeks since diagnosis which is not good considering they said he had 6/8weeks left. x

  • Hi Emz

Im so pleased your step dad is home and having chemo, do you know what sort his having. How long do they say he will have with chemo.?

Its horrible trying to explain to children whats happening and even worse when they cant see their grandparents.

I really hope the chemo works for your dad and he does prove them all wrong.

Ill keep my fingers crossed that you find somewhere to stay so you can go and have a nice visit.

We are all ok thank you, Ive written a post about my dad on a reply to claire above x

  • Hi Ollie, I had a phonecall from the doctor's last night at 11:30pm mum has massively deteriorated within the space of a couple of hours, I've been allowed up today to see her and they have said she's has a matter of hours/short days left. They are looking to try and get her into a hospice so she's in a nicer environment in her last stages of life x

  • Omg why what happened, thinking of you at this awful time xxx

  • Sorry your mum went through the added stress of no one responding to her calls Ollie but glad you managed to sort meds for your Dad. Well done.
Will be thinking of your Dad on Monday and glad they've finally sorted his biopsy.

I'm not sure if the one month prognosis was without treatment or with tbh Ollie. I find talking with my mum quite difficult because of the mixture of info I receive so this week we've not spoken so much mainly just to Dad on video calls with kids so it's been lighthearted x

Again really appreciate your support Ollie

    tvgc hope to speak soon

    Emz

  • Claire I'm so sad to read this update, just to let you know I'm thinking of you and your mum x

  • Mum passed around 3pm today, I will be in touch soon to see how you are Ollie, sending my love xx

  • Im so very very sorry. Please take care sending you a big hug xx

  • Hi Emz.

Im so pleased your Dad is home and at least you can speak to him on video call. It must be awful your mum not communicating with you. Do you think she is trying to block it out.

When my dad first came out of hospital he wouldnt speak about it at all. It wasnt till I see him face to face a week later that he really talked about it.

My mum on the other hand didnt stop talking about it.

Im keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your dad to stay well and prove the hospitql wrong.

Take care thank you also for your support. x
