Disgusted with my brothers GP and cancer/oncologist team

My brothers cancer story in a short paragraph.

My brother found a dodgy mole in June this year, had a biopsy that was later found to have cancerous cells in it.
He said he would hear from the specialist cancer teams about what’s next.
My brother waited 8 weeks for scans( could be longer) He had to ring them for an update in the end.
By this time the cancer had spread to his lymphatic system. The oncologist then decided to rush a Pre-op.
The lymph nodes where removed as was more of his chest where the mole was.
His next scan showed the cancer had spread everywhere, lungs, liver and numerous spots around his chest.
They offered 2 lots of treatment,,he was unsure as the treatment where extremely toxic so wanted a few days to think about it. The following Monday he decided he would have  the treatments only to be told sorry your too far gone now. (In a week) but it took you over 8 weeks to sort the original scans out!!!
My brother is 41 with two young children.
Absolutely disgraceful the way they have dealt with my brother.
From finding a dodgy mole to 6 weeks to live in 4months.

  • Such a sad thread. My heart goes out to you and your family. No one should have to endure what your brother went through. Sending hugs x

  • I am so sorry for your lose my son in law only 31 with two kids has been let down by G.P and local hospital been suffering from terrible migraines countless visits to docs to be told it’s eye strain.A&E VISIT to be told by doc he knows a migraine when he sees one .After about 6 weeks finally got scan brain tumours and cancer has spread out look not good and like you I am taking it further why should they just palm peple off. And I bet it would of been different if they had money

  • sorry about your brother but listen below to my dads story

he had heart stents in 2015 and they noticed while in hospital he had blood in his urnine, so they did full tests straight away, dad was sent home as he had healed from the stents ... he never anything about the tests so presumed all was ok.

fast forward to 2017 - dads getting horrible pains when peeing his GP sends him to the hospital ( a different one to where he had his stents ) they run tests and dad has bladder caner, right ok lets kick its butt dad said .. he was waiting for treatment, had more investigations they was going to remove the bladder to put a bag on but he had to have a PET scan first this showed he had cancer in his lungs sorry there is nothing we can do ..

dad goes to see his specialist about chemo to prolong his life - gets told there is consultants from the other hospital here to see him ... strange you may think, anyways they are there to say sorry he had cancer cells in 2015 but because of a "clerical error" they didnt send for dad or send his result to his GP if they had i wouldnt be sat watching my dad now pass from terminal cancer

the govenement have a lot to ask for cutting cost from the NHS we need more money so the hospitals are not running short of staff so these mistakes NEVER happen

too late for my dad yes but for others... i hope not

  • Father similar mole. I spotted his mole and it failed the visual a b c d test so I knew instantly it was maliganant. It still took printing out the Nice cancer referral guidelines and threatening to sue to get him referred by the GP. Took 3 weeks. Further 2 weeks biopsy, staging and 2 weeks to surgery. He survived. But very nearly didnt if left to GP.
