Dad has terminal prostate cancer

Hi. Really feeling lost with all this. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December that has spread to his bones and lymph nodes. He's started on the hormone injections and his first appointment with specialist was today, but because of the snow he was unable to attend. The doctor rang him and said they would prescribe him some hormone tablets and that chemo isn't a viable option... Is this because it has spread too much? Does anyone have any similar stories with this? He has been given very little information and won't get a new appointment for 3 weeks. Thank you. Any information good or bad would be appreciated
