Colon Cancer

Hi, my wife was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with a cancerous lump in the lower part of her bowel, they rushed her into surgery a week later and she is now home after a 5 hour session on the table. She is in good spirit and we decided to face it head on and deal with what ever gets thrown at us with a positive attitude. This is all good and well, however we have not yet had a response on whether or not the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and therefore we cannot plan anything. I wander has anyone else had something similar that has recovered. If so how long did it take to regain strength? My wife is 37, we have 2 beautiful children and I need her to bounce back to be her usual self as best as possible. Many thanks in advance for any info.

  • Spotted it sorry not stopped it x

  • My bloods all came back fine and nearly did t go for colonoscopy as thought it couldn’t be anything too bad if my bloods were fine, so glad my husband persuaded me to go as it picked up mine low in the rectum too.  I had anterior resection in January and have a ileostomy and 3 months of chemo which finished in May, got a pre op tomorrow for reversal of stoma, operation date 1st nov

  • Good luck with your pre op, i was extrem lucky and my surgeon preformed my anterior resection without having a stoma, how did you find the chemo? I've just had my 3rd treatment Friday and haven't felt great, did you find it got worse the more you had? X

  • Thank you for your reply. Due a telephone call about an mri any time today thank god. Hope you ladies are feeling well today. Thinking of you x

  • Thank you! Each time I had chemo it got a little bit harder, the last one for me was the worst, I was sick and took me a couple of weeks to feel normal again, I had 4 in total, the numbness in my hand and feet still drive me mad and I finished in May, I had capacitne and oxyplaitin ( not sure if spelt correctly)!!

  • Yer I'm on the same, my first one hit me hard and I ended up in the hospital. Second time theyr the dose and done the drip for 4 hours and I felt great, but third time has been hard, no energy, feeling sick and cramps so bad. Hoping it's just for s couple of days tho x

  • hello,

I’m a 37 year old mum of two young children.

I’ve just been diagnosed with bowel cancer after an emergency appendectomy. The cancer was found in my appendix, surrounding blood vessels and nerves. I’m starting radiotherapy in January and 8 rounds of chemo as soon as that’s finished.

Im currently terrified and in a constant state of fear for the future...

i came across this post from August and I’d love to hear some experiences of treatment of bowel cancer. And what to expect next...

thanks in advance for any responses x

  • Hello

I hope your wife is doing well! I wanted to ask if you don't mind, what was your wife's symptoms?

    X

  • Hi

I really hope you don't mind me replying to your post and I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I wish you all the best!

Do you mind me asking what were your symptoms if any prior to you going in for the appendicitis operation and then discovering you had bowel cancer? x

  • I had been diagnosed with IBS, I’m a teacher so drs thought because of my age and in a stressful job it wasn’t  concern. I showed no other signs.

Then on 18th November night time I suddenly got pain in my side and was sick which led to going to a&e. They thought I’d be going in to theatre for a simple appendicitis but ended up with it having burst already and I had 30cm of bowel either side of my appendix removed. When histology came back it’s shown cancer in my appendix plus blood vessels and nerves in my bowel...

my heart is broken and I’m just terrified for the future... mostly for my children. I don’t want to leave them without a mummy...
