My husband has advanced prostate cancer

Can any help on knowing who to contact for support and counselling please.

  • Hi, my husband has stage four stomach cancer. I would suggest getting in touch with Macmillan. They signposted me towards cancer support Scotland, their website has a self referral section and after a couple of months they called me and set up 6 sessions of counselling which was really helpful. My husband was also referred to our local hospice while he was in hospital and when we had an appointment to chat to the doctor their she referred me to counselling through the hospice as well. I would also look up Maggie centres, they have counsellors onsite and you can just go any time and ask to speak to them if they are free. I haven't tried them personally but my local Maggie's centre is a lovely calming place even just for a visit.

I hope you're able to find help soon. Xx

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Buspass, although I'm sorry to hear your husband has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. This must be a very difficult time for you both.

I can see you've just received some excellent advice from SwimFree93, but I hope you don't mind me sharing some links to a few resources that may come in handy too.

The first is to an area on our website about counselling. It provides information on the different types of counselling that are available and advice on how to find a counsellor.

We also have a section on looking after your mental health, and an area for family, friends and caregivers, which has advice on how to support someone with cancer and how to take care of yourself.

I hope this helps Buspass and that you and your husband are able to get the support you are seeking at this time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
