Lump Under Clitoral Hood

I'm 21 and have severe anxiety. A month ago I found a lump that I could feel when touching the *** hood, unsure where it was at this time or what it looked like, however I thought it might have been a spot etc so it would've gone down. It's not gone down and hasn't gotten bigger either. It's only irritable if I'm wearing tight clothes or have my legs crossed. I rang the doctors last week and they put me on some tablets to see if it's an infection but I really doubt this. I managed to get a photo of the lump and it looks like a white spot, it's hard and only can be seen if the hood is really stretched. Im going to ring the doctors when I'm out tablets, but I'm afraid the doctors will dismiss me and tell me it's nothing serious because I'm too young, as they have told me this before with endometriosis. I'm just worried as it's in a really odd place for it to be a spot, infection or cyst. Any advice?

  • Hello, and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry this is causing you so much anxiety, but I'm going to be unable to tell you exactly what the matter is. What I can say is that you might have a Bartholin's cyst which would be far more likely in your age range than a vulval cancer. I know you weren't keen on hearing that, but our statistics show that no women under the age of 35 were diagnosed with vulval cancer between the years of 2015-2017, and the expected age of women is 75 plus. I think those numbers are good for you to know.

I've placed a link here telling you about the cysts, and you will understand better why you have some antibiotics to take.

I hope this has made things a bit clearer for you, but if you still feel concerned after you have finished all your antibiotics then do give the GP a call.

    Take care,

    Sarah.

  • Ive had a lump in between my *** and hole for years I thought it was as car from where an ex had put a cig out there, but recently its started moving up to my ***, but I think it's effecting the feeling of my *** now. I'm not registered at a doctors at the moment, think I'm in denial as I've just gone through years of crap trying to get a tumour diagnosed and removed on my hand. I just hope it's not anything malicious but kinda too scared to go get help for it.

    Thanks

  • Hello Missy2307 and thanks for posting,

Seeing a doctor is the only way to find out what this lump is. Getting checked out can feel scary, but doing nothing most probably won't make you any less scared, in fact you might end up worrying even more.

No one here on Cancer Chat can say what this lump is or if it is anything to worry about. It might not be anything serious, but as a general rule if a lump is caused by cancer the sooner it is detected the better so it can be sorted out. Please do look after your health and get checked out.

The NHS website tells you how to register with a GP.

I hope your hand has been sorted out now.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia

  • Hi I'm having the same issue. There's a small spot like thing under my clitoris hood. I'm only just turned 18 years old and it's freaking me out. I haven't called the doctors yet because I'm too embarrassed. It doesn't hurt and there's not really any discomfort but just knowing it's there is scary. You can only see if when the hood is stretched. As it's a really odd place for a spot did they doctors get back to you?

  • I have the same too, or something similar. I've just turned 18 but I've known it's was there for just over a year. I didn't go to the doctors because of lockdown and then I forgot about it. It's bigger now still doesn't hurt though but can be uncomfortable. Did go to the doctors in the end ?

  • I haven't gone to the doctors yet. I jus really haven't had the time. I was meant to book an appointment but I genuinely forgot. Mine is still painless and I feel like it has grown. But some days it looks a little bigger but then the next it doesn't, it looks small again if that makes sense. Does that happen to uu?

  • Erm... sometimes maybe. I just feel like it was so tiny to start of with so I'm not sure as it's never gone back to being that small. I'm currently being tested for POCS but I've checked and it has nothing todo with that. I might mention it the at my next appointment. I just really don't want the physical exam. It doesn't hurt but I Do find sometimes it's starting to get uncomfortable.

  • Mine so far hasn't been uncomfortable but I've only noticed mine like a month or so ago. But I don't know how long it's been there for. The fact that I've never done anything sexual before ik it's obviosuly not an sti. but then I start deeping what if somethings wrong with me yk. Do uu mind letting me know what the doctors get back to you with? And same I think that's partly the reason why I don't want to go to the doctors as I'm scared of a physical exam.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

Many people post finding similar spots or lumps around their vulval area . No one can diagnose here, but it's not unusual to sometimes find blocked sebaceous glands around this area or a cyst like a Bartholins cyst. These are common and not connected with cancer.

The GP sees lots of women and teenage girls with similar concerns so don't feel embarrassed - it's always best to get things like this checked out, if anything, also for peace of mind. You can always ask the practice nurse to come in if you feel more comfortable with someone else being there.

A gynaecological cancer in your age group is extremely rare but it's good to keep an eye on anything that is new or bothering you .

    So do make an appointment

    All the best

    Wanda

  • Hi I'm 14 and have really bad anxiety, 2 days ago I woke up with a  hard, sore lump on my clitoral hood, it's gotten a little bigger since, it's really sore. Is there anything you think it could be or I could do to get rid of it/get it to go down? Im really nervous :(
