Pea sized lump on inner labia

Sorry, I know this is really gross. I’m 20 and have so much anxiety about everything, especially Health and I know it’s wrong but I am constantly on google/nhs/web md etc.

I have found a hard smaller than pea size lump on my vulva/ upper inner labia (above the clitorus) it is immovable but it not visible unless the skin is stretched and doesn’t hurt unless squeezed but I’m really worried it’s vulva cancer. It can’t be an STI as I’m not sexually active and it’s not an ingrown hair as there is no hair there.

I’m really worried

  • Hi

I have recently found a bigger than pea size and firm lump under the skin near the opening. Just looks a bit red but can't really see it.  Slightly concerned as it is quite itchy. Not painful, just uncomfortable if touched. I'm 18 and a virgin so definitely not sti. Not sure what to do.

Also, this is probably completely unrelated but could swollen lymph node glands under arms be linked to this?

  • Hello Sarah

The best thing to do is to get it checked out by your doctor.  It is extremely unlikely that this will turn out to be cancer, as cancer of the labia is uncommon  and in someone of your age almost unheard of.  But there must be some reason for it and it may need treating so do see your doctor about it.

    Take care

    Martin

  • Good evening,

im a 33 year old woman who has recently found a lump. I've had a bit of blood and a sort of brown discharge. Yesterday I went to my gp who said she wasn't sure what it was but it was like a pouch of skin. Ive been referred to a gynaecologist and am absolutely terrified. Please reassure me

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m afraid no one on here can tell you what the matter is. Sometimes  a lump in the labia may be down to Bartholin's cysts which you can read more about here.

I think your GP is referring you to the gynaecologist just to be on the safe side to see what their advice is and I think until then no one will be able to tell you any more for now.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi I've recently found a pea sized lump, it's a bit red and only sore if I touch it. It's been there about 5 days and hasn't gone down at all. I really want to avoid going to the doctors if I can and if it's just going to go away on it's own but there's no sign of it disappearing yet. I've read about Bartholin cysts and think it could be one. Do they go away on their own or should I go get it checked out? Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Lumps and bumps can appear for lots of reasons but most are harmless and do settle by themselves after a short while.

As you have already mentioned bartholin cysts are common in this area and usually go away by themselves. You can read more here

As it has only been 5 days and it isn't causing you any problems I would see how things go for now. Some people find taking warm baths or putting a warm compress can help if they are causing pain or discomfort.

If things don't settle or they get worse in the next week then do go and get it checked out by your GP.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Hi, in august over the period of a week I had these white bumps appear on my labia right above my clitorus. During this week of these appearing I also had red pea sized bumps appear maybe 3-4 of them around the labia. It was incredibly painful to pee but after a week it all cleared up. Since then I have had on and off light spotting when I'm not on my period and my discharge can occasionally change colour and have a slight odour. I also occasionally have slight spotting after sex. Last weekend I found a pea sized lump in the same place that the white bumps are. It feels itchy and I can feel it when walking, sitting etc.

im worried can anyone help! I'm only 19.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you have a health worry. Sometimes  a lump in the labia may be down to Bartholin's cysts which you can read more about here.

There can be many reasons why women may experience bleeding between periods and after sex and you can read more about this on the NHS website here and here

Probably, the best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your GP to have this checked out just to be on the safe side.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi my wife has/had one it is maybe a blocked pour or a zit leave it alone and it will go.

  • I have had a lump above my *** on the left side for a few years now, dosn't hurt, i can squeeze it and always get fluid out from it but the lump never goes it just refills with fluid. Its probably abit bigger than a bait bean and is moveable.
Been to the docs about it and they said they arn't worried think its an ingrown hair thats formed into a cyst and that its up to me to have it removed as they arn't concerned its anything bad
