As you are experiencing new symptoms of feeling short of breath or struggling to catch your breath, it is important to let your hospital team know as soon as possible so they can assess you and make sure everything is alright. There can be a number of reasons why someone may feel breathless after surgery. While some causes may be less serious, others may need prompt medical attention, so it is important that you are checked by a healthcare professional.

If you are having difficulty contacting your hospital team, you can call NHS 111 for advice. If your breathing suddenly worsens, you develop chest pain, or you become very unwell, please seek urgent medical attention by calling 999 or going to your nearest Accident and Emergency department.
