Should my mum have lung biopsy with copd?

My mum needs to have a lung biopsy at hospital she has copd, and due to have a pet scan.

My question is, what are the chances of her having a collapsed lung after, am worried. I dont think she should have this biopsy just yet until after pet scan. Has anyone had this procedure with copd/ emphesimia

Mum said yes to it at the time, without knowing all the factors..but ive done my research now.. so am very cautious.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

This is difficult for anyone, other than your mums doctor, to answer. They will know whether she is safe to have these investigations without causing her other problems, as doctors will always weigh up the risk and benefit of every step.

It might be good to try and speak to the doctors who your mum is under at the hospital. Discuss your concerns about her other conditions. But, as your mum is the patient and if the doctors feel she is able to make her own decisions, they will go with her consent.

Take care, and if you want to talk things through with one of our nurses do call 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
