Colonoscopy

I had colon cancer 2021.lucky my cancer polyp was removed.  I went for colonoscopy 2022.they found benign polyps. I went again on 23rd January 2026. It was so painful & not clear enough. I didn't have sedation which was probably a mistake. I have to go back in about 6 weeks time. Im terrified in case it doesn't work again. 68 year old male

  • Hello Jockney and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand that when you have a painful procedure and this then has to be repeated can cause a lot of anxiety.

It maybe helpful to try and see if you can contact the endoscopy department so they are pre warned about your concerns. They may be able to make sure that you have adequate sedation and perhaps give you something to help prevent any pain.

I can understand that taking the prep can be very unpleasant but it is so important to make sure that you have a clear bowel so they are able to see the bowel as clearly as they can.

Hopefully if you are more relaxed and the pain is adequately controlled hopefully the next colonoscopy will be much easier.

if you would like to ring and discuss any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
