Colposcopy and biopsy

Ive had low grade abnormal cells since 2018. I had a yearly colposcopy on dec 24th 2025 and all seemed fine. I had no cramps no bleeding. Then on 27th i started bleeding like a period though ive not actually had any periods for 14 months.

Its not clots and not a brownish red. Its more a brightish red. Its not soaking pads though im very aware of feeling it flow from me whenever i get up from sitting down.

Is this normal? They did say to expect some bleeding for up to 2 weeks but i was expecting just slight spotting, not this amount after this amount of time.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Some bleeding after a colposcopy is normal, even more than spotting. Bright red bleeding can happen as the cervix heals, especially when biopsies have been taken.

Because you haven't had a period for 14 months and the bleeding feels like a light period, it's best to contact the colposcopy clinic to let them know. They may feel this is normal as you've had a biopsy taken but you may find it reassuring to get their advice.

I hope this improves for you soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
