What vitamins can you take when you have advanced prostate cancer?

Hello,

I was just looking for some advice. My 73yo dad has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer 4 months ago. He is recieving 3 monthly injections and taking the hormone tablets daily. He has started to become fatigued and having less energy. He doesn't currently take any vitamins. Is there any that someone could reccomend for him? Or anything else to help bring his energy up? He eats well and has a varied diet.

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your concern. There is useful information on diet when you have prostate cancer, on the website of the UK charity Prostate Cancer UK.

It is important to have a protein source with each meal and slow releasing carbohydrates, such as brown wholemeal bread, beans, pulses, and not refined, such as cake, biscuits, white bread for example. Taking a daily brand multi vitamin in addition to a balanced diet is recommended, rather than specific vitamins on their own. A pharmacist can advice on the various products available.

Hormone therapy and advanced cancer does cause fatigue. There is also information on managing fatigue on our website.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
