Bladder cancer removed but I have been experiencing side effects since having chemo. Is this normal?

Hi, i have had a 5mm cancer removed on July 1st by Transurethral Laser Ablation (Tula), mitomycin was put in my bladder, terrible pain when i tried to urinate this out! Servere vomiting that evening. Ever since i have felt very unwell and extremely tired, is this normal.

All the best to everyone.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery and treatment and the after effects you are experiencing.

Treatment can affect people in different ways but usually side effects ease and settle down as time goes by. It is important to let your hospital team know how you are feeling so they can assess you as to the exact cause and advise you as to best manage this.

Do speak with your team when you can, if you haven't already. They may have given you an emergency number to call as well so don't hesitate to call that if you need to.

Wishing you all the best and that you start feeling better soon

    Naomi

  • Thanks, yesterday i went to my urology department who removed the tumor and discussed what happeneds next. After explaining how ill I felt the registrar, promptly said you have an infection, I had taken in a urine sample to my GP on the 7 July and this now shows on the records as an infection. On the 10 July the GP surgery practice told me everything was normal verbally and by text. Also on that day i took another urine sample in, but to date no reply.

This is not the first time the GP practice has got things wrong.

Regarding the cancer i will have to return in 3 months and 9 months for checks.

The urology department gave me a prescription for antibiotics so, hopefully I will be feeling better soon.

    Thanks.
