Can a Ct scan diagnose prostate cancer?

My husband is being tested for prostrate cancer and has had a ct scan . Can a cancer be detected with this or does he need a biopsy

  • Hello, and many thanks for your post,

I am sorry to learn that your husband is being tested for prostate cancer this must be a difficult time for you both.

A scan cannot diagnose prostate cancer on its own, a biopsy is needed so that the cells can be looked at closely under a microscope and this will confirm whether or not its cancer. I am not sure of your husband's situation and whether he has also had an MRI scan. This is often the first test done that helps the doctors decide whether or not a biopsy is needed.

I hope this helps, please come back to us if you need any further information. if you would like to speak with one of our nurses we are available between Monday and Friday 9-5 pm and the freephone number to call is 8080 800 4040.
