Doctor found lump in my breast

Hi everyone:)

im Clare and I started with a sharp pain in my breast last Thursday, thought my period would start soon so didn’t think too much about it( although I never get breast pain ). I got ready for bed and there was a red type mark where the pain had been, thought nothing of it. Friday came round and I had what appeared to be a pale bruise which had grown overnight along with more pain and a bit of swelling. By the time I got to see the doctor the following Wednesday I noticed the rash ( warm to touch ) would come and go but the pain and swelling was getting bigger. The doctor said I had an infection but if the antibiotics didn’t work within 24 hours to phone up and she would do a scan. I left it an extra day and although my symptoms haven’t worsened they didn’t improve either. So the doctor told me to come in as she suspected it could’ve been an abscess. She performed a breast exam on me ( as I winced through the pain ) and said she didn’t believe I had an abscess and she wasn’t too convinced I had an infection ( though the swelling was very hard ) she did tell me she found a lump which she was keen to sort out. So I’m on an urgent referral, but I can only feel how hard my breast is, I can’t feel a lump. It’s scared me no end as I keep looking at my two year old gorgeous little boy and can barely keep the tears back as he would never remember me or know how much I love him, if indeed it did turn out to be cancer.

I find all you ladies so inspiring to be able to get through this and be strong for your families

I would love some help or advice as I’m not sure how to cope waiting for this referral

many thanks lovely people

  • Thank you, yes....I know it will be a bumpy ride but I need to get back on that rollercoaster.....look out......here I come!!!!! Xxx

  • My kind of man! Where would we be without them? Mind you 7 weeks on from surgery I really do have to stop milking it! Xx

  • Hi sorry I went awol! I couldn’t cope with my phone as it made it too easy for me to consult dr google!! So I stopped going online altogether!!

i had my apppointment today, I got vip treatment - which worried me somewhat. - wont bore you too much with details!!! After a mammogram ( my first one  ) and an ultrasound, I ended up with a needle aspiration.

the doctor still wasn’t quite 100% but seems to think it’s a stubborn abscess, she couldnt get any fluid out really, though she thinks she got enough to test it. I’ve been put on more antibiotics and have to go back this Friday as if there is no change I have to have a fine needle biopsy.

the mammogram suggested significant change in my left breast ( but the doctor thinks it’s down to this problem ) so all in all a positive outcome I hope! I just wanted to pop down what happened incase others have similar issues.

my breast was getting redder and significantly harder and bigger. But I can rest easy- though I will rest more easy when I am discharged!!

How are you jolaminewow and Marlyn? I have been thinking of you both.

    warm regards

  • Hi just wanted to add another update for anyone experiencing similar symptoms. I was diagnosed with a breast abscess and cellulitis, breast drainage was minimal (1ml) but came back with no bacteria! Yay! Two days after my first breast clinic appointment I could barely breath, long story short I ended up at out of hours who sent me to hospital with suspected sepsis. I was admitted in to an a&e ward awaiting my breast doctor to see my the following morning, he came and they attempted another drain but to no avail, my temp was out of whack and heart rate up the wall, by breast was now the reddest it had been and the lump was (is) gigantic. I was admitted into hospital in IV antibiotics (clyndamycin and flucloxacillin) which I had been on orally for 3 weeks anyway. I Was in for 5 days and I knew nothing had changed but it was a Sunday night and was able to get to go home to see my little boy! ( had missed him terribly ) I knew Monday morning I shouldn’t of come home but my husband had taken a few days off and was glad he did. I had a follow up appointment booked for the Thursday. I went and he took one look and admitted me again( temp all over the place heart rate up the wall, breast no change ) they have now changed my IV antibiotics 2times since being in. Had another scan and it has shrunk the tiniest of bits- I thought good news! My breast dr said he is now getting concerned it may (may) be something sinister, but said he is also hopeful these new antibiotics will bring a big change over this weekend. He put his hand on my shoulder and said he will fix me. I’m now not sure if I should worry or not? I do have some peau d’orange which has started last night and my nipple won’t pop out, I’m on a gynae ward so none of the nurses can help, they can see what I mean regarding the changes. I’m so sorry for the long long post!

I do hope jolomine and Marilyn are ok!

    Warm regards and hugs

  • Hi, gosh, what an update....you have been through it haven't you.

as long as it all gets sorted, I am glad your on the right track ...

chemo has knocked me about somewhat, ending up in hospital for the day hooked up to fluids and anti sickness cocktails... silly low temp today ( 34) but all sorted now...the gift that keeps giving eh?!

Do update us Hun, would like to know how it all goes....

    much love ️  xxxxxxx

    Oh Pumpkin,

You're not having an easy time of it are you? It sounds as if going to A & E has a least got you a little further with tests, etc. It also means that your doctor can see for himself what is and has been happening to your breasts. I sincerely hope that your doctor is wrong and that there is no cancer present.

Have they done a sensitivity test to see what antibiotics might hit this on the head?

I am doing ok. We had a busy weekend, with all of my family up to clear my father-in-law's flat - just a few items left to be picked up next week. I am keen to get rid of my melanoma and, now have a date to have it removed on 4th March.

I am thinking of you and praying for resolution as soon as possible. Is there any chance of getting moved to a more suitable ward? It makes all the difference to have staff who know more about your condition than they do on a gynae ward.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  •

    HI Marlyn,

I am so sorry to hear that this round of chemo has hit you so badly again, but am glad to hear that it is all sorted now.

I know that it's not an easy ride, but you have the strength to see this through and, if anyone can do this, I know that you can!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx.

  • Thank you jolamine,

today I feel much better....but it's hard to think this is my life for the next 4 months....but I will soldier on regardless....hopefully safe in the knowledge that this nasty thing won't rear its ugly head again....fingers crossed..and touch wood and squeezing a rabbits foot! Xxx

  •

    Hi Marlyn,

It's good to hear that you feel so much better today. I agree that the next 4 months don't seem a very pleasant prospect, but you'll see it through. I hope that all the finger crossing, the touching wood and the rabbit's feet produce the miracle you want.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi marlyn and jolamine

how are you both doing? So sorry I went awol again. I had a breast biopsy(3) two days ago- wow does that anaesthetic hurt and now my breast hurts like hell too! They told me it's not an abscess now but I still have 2 infections and cellulitis, they have two things they think it could be but they seem sure it's granulomatous breast disease or breast cancer but they really think it's the granulmatous more so. I will get my results in a week or so. I have to go to hospital every other day apart from weekends at the moment and I sleep about 6hours during the day as it is. Just thought I'd update you both.

be great to hear from you both as I often think of you . Please let me know how you are both doing

    warmest regards
