Gallbladder and stage 4 metastasis - is there any research in the UK in to this type of cancer in case my treatment fails

Hi

I was diagnosed with Gallbladder and stage 4 metastasis cancer in late January.  I'm on chemotherapy and immunotherapy and am not fatigued or lost any weight, in fact I've put weight on.  Though I'm doing well I realise that this condition is incurable.  Is there any research in the UK into this type of cancer if my treatment falls through.

  • Hi, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn of your situation. This must be a difficult time for you.

It is good to see that you are doing well on treatment.

I wondered if you have spoken with your cancer specialist or specialist nurse (CNS) about what happens if the treatment stops being effective, about whether there might be any other lines of treatment you could try.

On our website, we have a trials database that you might find helpful to search. This lists the trials that we have been permitted to put on our website, including some gall bladder trials. Although Cancer Research UK funds clinical trials, we are not directly involved with the day-to-day running of the trials or recruiting patients. This is done by the doctors and nurses at the hospital. If you do find a trial you think you are suitable for, the best person to discuss this with would be your specialist, who can refer you. Another website that might be useful is ClinicalTrials.gov, which lists trials that are taking place across the world, including the UK.

You may also find it helpful to contact the AMMF charity that supports people with cholangiocarcinoma and gall bladder cancer.

I hope this is helpful. Please get back to us if you have any questions. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, we are here Monday to Friday, 9-5, freephone 0808 800 4040

    Take care,

    Jemma
