Lump on neck?

Hi for I couple of years I have had this Lump on my neck but I never thought anything of it because it was quite small and never caused me any trouble. but over the last couple days/weeks it has grown really big and it is even possible to see it now I think it is about 2cm wide but i'm not sure and it is starting to worry me because I do not feel ill apart from feeling more tired than usual it doesn't hurt at all even when I press on it and it feels quite hard. It is definatly my lymph node because my dad is a mdeic and I got him to feel it when it was small and he said keep an eye on it. but I could just being over paraniod because in the last 6 months two of my friends have been diagnosed with cancer (leakemia and lymphoma) they are only 18 and 16 so it may have just given me a huge shock because I'm 17 myself and I thought people my age didn't get cancer.

Re: Lump on neck?

About 12 years ago, I developed a couple of lumps on my arm. One was very hard, and about the size of a 10p coin. It was most uncomfortable because it was pressing into my arm.

I had the lumps removed under local anaesthetic and they were sent to the path lab for analysis.  All were completely benign.

Go to your GP, get a referral to have the lump removed and stop worrying.

No, dont leave it!  No one will think youre wasting time by going to the doctors.  Things like this should not go uninvestigated.  There are so many types of blood test that unless you had the correct one a few weeks ago it would show nothing up anyway.  For you own (and that of your family) get it checked out.  I'm sure it will be nothing, but better to be safe than sorry! Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Re: Lump on neck?

Get an emergency appointment and see your doctor TOMORROW (monday). Or maybe call NHS Direct NOW on 0845 4647 (only 8 digits long)

This sounds like some form of infection and you may well need antibiotics.  It appears to be affecting several parts of your body and if you leave it then it might turn very serious, very quickly.

DON'T WAIT.

Re: Lump on neck?

Hi ash1995...Please don't leave this, my husband had a lump on his neck in January, we went straight to the doctors and over the past few months many tests were done and it turns out he has cancer of the voice box, with a secondary in his lymph nodes in the neck, we were told last week there was nothing they could do as it was too far advanced and he was given months to live. Please get an appointment tomorrow, better to be told you are wasting their time than sit and wonder...believe me!...

Good luck Nikki
