Im 19 years old and convinced im dying of cancer yet ive been to the doctors twice. It started over a year a go and i had a painful left testicle and after examination i found a lump so went to doctors and they then said its nothing to worry about. ever since then im paranoid and keep worrying that i still have it . I then started getting headaches and constantly tired no matter how much sleep i get , i wake up and ferl tired all day, im normally very active and play football and even struggle when im playing. I have large sores at the back of my throat and keep gettting really bad upper abdonem pain and did have blood in my stools but that hasnt happened in weeks. I went to the docs and they gave me anti biotis and said my throats just mucus from my nose and i had blood tests for my tirdness and they all come back fine. Am i just tired and getting sores because im stressed and worrying about nothing ? I always google my symptoms which tell me i have cancer, ami just stressing which is causing my tiredness?
im sure if your doctor had any doubts he would refer you to the hospital, my cousins son had it in his testacle and was referred straight away he was seventeen at the time he had treatment and is in his late 30s now and absoluely fine, if youre still unhappy about it see another doctor for a second opinion. all the best sandy xx
It sounds as though you are going through a stressful time. You could talk to our specialist nurses about your concerns on freephone: 0808 800 4040. They are available from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. You could also send a post to them here in the Ask The Nurses section.
Welcome to Cancer Chat.
Hi, Please don't worry but you need to put your mind at rest. Have you asked for a 2nd opinion? Can you get checked privately? Its clearly a concern but you have to ask yourself when you get the all clear, will that be the end of the stress you are experiencing?
I am inclined to say follow your instincts, you may not always be right, and you are probably not in this case, but go back and insist.
Good luck but i am sure you wont need it
Thanks everyone for the feedback . I did have a second doctors appointment booked but parents made me cancel it, said I'm being stupid and that if their was anything wrong it would have been picked up in the bloods and the doctor what have picked it up . I started of thinking I had testicle cancer then throat and oral then colon , surely after a year I would be a lot worse if I had all these ?
hi again book in with a different doctor get another opinion then you will feel loads better you are possibly worrying for nothing but at least you could put it all behind you and enjoy your teens they are the best years dont miss out regards sandy x
I agree with sandylo - book again for a second opinion but this time don't tell your parents.
Now you are 19 you are legally an adult and in charge of your own health. We all value our parents' opinions, but sometimes we have to decide for ourselves what is in our own best interests and that may conflict with our parents' advice. You only need to share with your parents what you choose to share, and if you prefer not to tell them about getting a second opinion then that's your decision to make.
