Hello,
Following symptoms of persistent sore throat (for approx 2 years), ear ache, cough, headaches and intermittent hoarse voice, I was referred to a ENT specialist who sent me for a MRI scan. He said that although I had symptoms that equated with some head and neck cancers (and also other things) I was too young (i turned 30 last sunday) and i don't smoke or drink heavily so he didn't think i had cancer but wanted to check with a MRI scan. Once I got the scan appointment, I had to phone up for a follow on appointment with the ENT doctor, the first appointment they had was the September 1st.
The MRI scan was two weeks ago, Does anyone know whether the hospital would have contacted me by now if anything did show up or would they wait until my appointment in september ? I am beginning to think that as I haven't heard then I must be in the clear but just wanted to reassure myself as september 1st seems a long time away !!
I have the read all the postings from all the incredibly brave people on this site and my thoughts and good wishes are with everyone.
keep fighting
hi Buttonsbear,
waiting is the hardest thing to do! i know i have been there!
i have been diagonosed with colon cancer and after a MRI and CAT scan and Biopsy.
my combined chemo and radiotherepy starts a week today thank goodness 9 (25 days of tumour meltdown)
my advise to you is do what i did ring the specialist's secretary. ask her:
1. if the results are out yet if not when. what the results are due.
2. what are the results.
i was amazed to find out the full extent of my condition from the specialist nurse i was put in touch with.
don't be timid in asking after all it is your body. if it is clear she may tell you.
if the news is not good once you know it is easier to deal with. you have to say to yourself right i have this
what is the extent of it how do i treat this. i see mine as a condition that needs treatment and then after my operation
i can get on with the rest of my life. i intend to enjoy every day of my life even with cancer i still mange to have fun and a few laughs
each day. hopefully your case may not be what you suspect but either way you are still you. i wish you well in your situation and i hope the news is good. i am thing of you.

Paris,
Many thanks for your response, I think you have an amazing attitude towards your treatment and am confident that it will carry you through the treatment and out the otherside.
I have taken your advice and the secretary said she would a get a consultant to phone me tomorrow morning to discuss the results. I am almost ready to exhange on a first house I am buying with my partner and didn't want to exchange not knowing !
Good luck with your chemo and radiotherepy, I will be thinking of you next week and wishing you well.
Thanks again
hi Buttonsbear,
i am so glad you rang i know you are still waiting for the results until tomorrow but at least you will
know please let me know how you have got on hope its good news.
its good to hear that you are exchanging contracts and you have a partner to support you.
i have had a wonderful husband for the last 27 years who is my rock his support has helped
me through this challanging time. i have been telling people i can't wait to go nuclear (as the
department is signed nuclear medicine) i have told the office staff where I work to put their
gigher counters away as i am not contagous! they were thinking of putting my desk in the
car park just in case!
anyway it seems you have a lot going on in your life at this time so i hope the best is yet to
come for you.
take care.
paris.
Thanks Paris
Going nuclear does sound quite cool really ! I wonder if you start developing special powers after the treatment ?
I waited at my desk all morning for the phonecall, my bladder was threatening to burst but I didn't want to go to the toilet incase i missed the call. By 1:30 I hadn't heard anything so I phoned the secretary up again and she said my doctor wasn't coming in til monday and he would look at it then. I am a little confused as originally I was told that my doctor was on holiday until september and my appointment was the first on his return and she would get another doctor to look at it in the morning for me
oh well, I am going to try and forget about it over the weekend, I am away in London with some of my girly friends so some retail therepy might come in useful !
All the best for going nuclear next week, I will be thinking of you and let me know how you get on.
Take care x
hi Buttonsbear,
sorry to hear you are being messed about it seems some people just don't
appreciate how much stress being messed about at a time like this can do
to someone. waiting on the end of the phone for important news is awful,
i hope you ring on monday, don't wait for them to ring you sadly i have found
out the more persistant you are the more likely you are to get a result.
anyway i hope you have a great weekend girlie friends and a trip to london
with retail therepy sounds the best medicine to me!
thanks for the special powers thing i have named my tumour charlie (apologies
to anyone called charlie out there) it goes back to my childhood my mum said
things were broken by an invisble charlie because we refusd to own up!
my special powers and the chemo and radiation will mean charlie is going
on a diet and then when the surgeon removes charlie we will have a coming
out party for charlie (after he has been nuked). my husband says the only
christmas present he wants this xmas is for me to be rid of charlie, with
my special powers i am working on it.
i hope you have a great weekend i know i will.
i will be thinking of you on monday.let me now how you get on.
take care x
