Hi there
, My name is cathy and i have just been diagnosed with oesophegeal cancer . went to see the surgeon yesterday on my 50th birthday bummer! a great gift.
the tumour is located on the lower half of th oesophegus. it looks as if there are no secondaries according to scan data , and the tumour is not near local lymph glands . he said he is optimistic that he should be able to remove all the tumour. He has suggested 3 sessions of chemo before surgury in 12 weeks or there abouts. He asked me if i had any questions but at the time i had very few. now my mind is racing with questions many i surpose with no answers , or at least clear ones anyway. Is there anyone out there who has experience of this or is going through the same thing?
What i really want to know is, after all this surgury and chemo and assuming all goes well and cancer is gone. Can i live a near normal life ? will it effect my life expectancy? silly really i should be gratefull its been cought early and what ever time i have i am grateful for. but it just would be nice to know whats ahead. and sorry if the spelling and grammer is all over the place , nnot really thinking at the moment
Hi Cathy,
Welcome to Cancer Chat. Lots of people come onto Cancer Chat and say exactly what you've just said!
It's very hard to think of questions at the time that you are with the doctor, it's only later when you've had time to think that the come to you.
I hope someone who has had, or has, oesophageal cancer comes along soon to chat.
You could also contact our specialist cancer nurses for advice here, or on freephone 0808 800 4040.
Best wishes
